Kinda, it's about a young lion who is left alone after his father, the jungle emperor, is killed.
The difference is that there's humans in it (his father is killed by hunters).
Then at some point Kimba actually befriends other humans (and somehow, he can talk with them), and even travels around the world. It may sound wacky but it works.
It's pretty nice, I recommend checking the manga. In fact I recommend checking all of Osamu Tezuka's works.

>It's some goofy Japanese franchise for kids
As most (if not all) of Tezuka's works, it's both goofy/comical, but also can be pretty dark and raw in certain occasions.
As for the comparisons, it's undeniable that the guys working on The Lion Kind were perfectly aware of Kimba. Kimba was popular with boomer kids in the 60s and early 70s, it's not too farfetched to think that many of the guys who worked in TLK had watched Kimba as kids and maybe wanted to pay some homages to it. It's not a 1:1 carbon copy (as TLK borrows a lot from Hamlet, plot-wise), but claiming TLK has not any influence from Kimba is Disney Lawyer-tier.

Maybe you feel that I'm attacking TLK, but I'm not. There's nothing wrong with influences and homages. The problem is that Disney Lawyers didn't want to admit that there were Kimba influences, because Tezuka's family sued Disney about it.

Welp, you got me. It seems I believed false rumours about the suing. I just looked up and it seems Tezuka productions didn't sue after all, weird.
As for Tezuka's son, Makoto, I guess I thought he was in charge of Tezuka's works because he was the one tasked by Nintendo to direct Jungle Taitei on N64 (and it was also the reason the game got cancelled, Makoto didn't feel experienced enough to do it).
I admit I was parroting bullshit, my bad anon.
Still, I think the homages and influences of Kimba in TLK are undeniable.
I can sort of see why you can be this defensive about it though, since all these years the argument is "OMG TLK is just a ripoff of Kimba!" and this isn't true either, but saying TLK has absolutely no influence from Kimba at all is also false. I guess the whole "TLK is a Kimba ripoff" is what led to false rumours like the Tezuka family suing Disney, that I believed to be true. So in that sense, I can see why some people like you may get defensive about this argument, you have a point definitely, and again I'm not saying TLK is a ripoff. But influences? Sure it has them. Again, Kimba wasn't some obscure anime, it was actually one of the very first japanese anime series that got popular in the west, along with Astro Boy. You can be the people who were working on TLK, all animators who loved animation and were in their 20s and 30s, definitely were familiar with Kimba.

But after all this time, no proof has come up that anything in TLK is inspired by Kimba. The only thing people have for this conspiracy is contextless images of african animals in both series.
The baboon is just a baboon, you know, a famous African animal. He's not a sage.
Evil uncle is not his uncle and is a minor character.
A father lion is barely a connection, and his fucking corpse pelt is a comedic object.
Kimba himself is nothing like Kimba, he's way more of an asshole imperialist.
TLK most certainly cribbed off Hamlet no doubt, but that was a unique thing, Kimba was just a slice of life show about some lion cub trying to run a jungle and be more like the humans

I get it, you're angry about all the parroting claiming it's a ripoff, and you're right about that, people exaggerated the homages and claimed it was a total ripoff, which is not true. But claiming that it's all "just a coincidence" seems also dishonest.

if you just wanna see that map to know what it looks like its on trcf type "map-rom.cgx" in the find window https://tcrf.net/Prerelease:Super_Mario_World_(SNES)/Background_Graphics_and_Tilemaps

Also to make the adult lank mask even more confusing theres also THIS mask hidden in the final game
>A mask bearing the features of Child Link can be found within Skullkid's object. There are three copies, each rotated differently, for use in different scenarios. There are also three corresponding models of Majora's Mask, rotated in the same manner. This suggests that Skullkid originally wore this mask.

Nothing really that interesting. There's one guy still digging through the files and posting some unused or slightly modified objects here and there.
We're to the point where all the easy-to-find stuff has been found and what's left is going to require a fuck ton of time and patience to sift through.

The timeline split was made not because of Skyward Swords which was made later as Oot prequel but to attach the first Legend of Zelda game where Ganon won which didn't happened in Oot where the only assumed ending was that Link was sent back in time to experience a childwood and Ganondorf was arrested, then they made another timeline where Adult Link defeated Ganon and was sealed by Zelda because of Wind Waker intro

Disregard what the other anon said about .scr files (unless you’re trying to view maps). I was having the same problem as you until I realized that unless you try a “valid” .col file (i.e. one with colors mapped to the right places) you won’t see anything at all (which is unlike how any other tile editor handles tiles, which is what threw me off initially). Just open a .col file through the same menu you used to open a .cgx file and keep trying till you find a palette that works on your tile set.

Makes sense: in the original plan, SkullKid probably stole Link's appearence (his mask) at the same time when he turned Link into a Deku Scrub, then went around Termina in Link form causing troubel that Link would be blamed for throughout the game, after getting your form back from him the first time you confront him on top of the clock tower.

>but to attach the first Legend of Zelda game where Ganon won
This always seemed like such a stupid fucking asspull until I read some anon's take on it that made a lot of sense. In the timeline where Ganon won, it wasn't that he killed Link in some off-screen battle or whatever in some parallel universe. Link is constantly creating multiple timelines every time he travels backwards in time and alters the course of history. Perhaps most notably is gaining access to the Spirit Temple. Originally (we'll say in timeline A) Link has no way of completing the Temple, so he travels back in time to get the Silver Gauntlets and meet Nabooru. In doing so, he alters the course of history (leading to timeline B). Depending on your interpretation, Link either ceases to exist in timeline A when he goes back in time, or he continues to exist but has no way of completing the Spirit Temple. Either way, Ganon's reign continues and Link fails his quest.

Of course this is all irrelevant because the entire timeline thing is an asspull that didn't exist until Nintendo one day randomly decided it did. None of this was ever the original intention for any of the Zelda games up until Skyward Sword.

Why is a random Miyamoto interview from 1989 the only evidence Shigesato Itoi ever worked on the early Zeldas, possibly even before 3?

"I’ve never been too particular about the story in the games I’ve made in conjunction with (Earthbound creator) Shigesato Itoi. The stories of Mario and Zelda titles have always been supplemental to the actual gameplay. Action games only have stories attached to make the experience more interesting. Itoi is the one that writes the story, and I just help out a bit."

Really makes it seem like he made quite more than just Zelda 3 with Itoi by 1989 given he says in the gameS he makes with Itoi.

The game has the ending version of the songs in the data which are used as a set of two based on the endings, but one of the four sets was actually used for the pal versions of the game
Best Ending Set (Adult Shokora. Used in all Versions): Toy Block Tower Ending Version - Monsoon Jungle
- A pic of a woman appears in Best at Hard while another one with Wario and two woman's appears at Very Hard.
Average Ending Set (Young and Wario Shokora. Used in all Versions): Crescent Moon Village - Doodle Woods
Bad Ending Set 1 (Baby Shokora. U.S.A. and likely JAP. Versions): Hall of Hieroglyphs Ending Version - Wildflower Fields
Bad Ending Set 2 (Baby Shokora. PAL only): Mystic Lake - The Big Board
Difficulty Ending Cars
Easy: Wario in his Car
Hard: Wario in a Truck
Very Hard: Wario in a Futuristic Car

I think comparing OoT and SM64, of which there is tons of prototype footage online and SF2 which is a well known pretty much finished yet unreleased game (some garbage overpriced emulation box released over twenty years after the original console came out doesn't count) is a bit unfair. The Link to the Past stuff has definitely been the most interesting to me. I don't think there's much of it left to find though. Pic related is an early world map that doesn't have a matching CGX file with the actual tile graphics. I tried guessing at the tile graphics based on the map structure and comparing it to the other existing world map graphics files, but this is as far as I got. I think speculative stuff like that is almost all that's left. Well that and digging through the source code, which I've seen surprisingly little of.

There's also this one that I think might be the earliest version of the world map. It didn't have a CGX file either, but I think I got it mostly right just by moving the tiles around in one of the other small map CGX files. I think the brown box had some developer notes in it or something because those are all unique tiles, but I have no way of knowing what that would have looked like.

You know, that might actually be precisely why people aren't getting more excited about the ALttP findings. With OoT, everyone's known for years about a lot of things that changed through development and it created this fascination with what once was and we never got to play ourselves.
With ALttP, aside from some statements in interviews, we had never seen any beta images that were truly, remarkably, different from the final product, so hardly anyone's looked back thinking of what could have been.

Now that we have fstdan, we can presume it was supposed to be the hub world to the game like Peach's castle in Mario 64.
The beta octorok is a familiar enemy we can easily make sense of and know how it was supposed to work in the game.We can even hope to see it put back in the game the (presumed) way it was supposed to work.
Conversely most of the stuff found in the leak about ALttP is difficult to see as anything more than just some sprite somebody made. Like that gelatinous plant monster people put back together. We're not sure that's how it was supposed to look like and we don't have the first clue what it would fight like.
It would be different if besides all these unused sprites we had clues that told us what they would have been like in the game (where they would be used, what they would do, etc.)

That's probably why everybody got excited about the big trees with faces, because we associate them with something we're already familiar with, allowing us to guess what role they might have had and triggering the nostalgia.
It probably would be the same if, say, manhandla was found among the sprites because we'd know what that boss is like to fight. But when we find instead a big turtle with horns... that doesn't tell us much without the code to go with it.

Don't get me wrong, me personally I love to see all this stuff, but without more than just unfamiliar sprites, I'm not surprised most people have a hard time getting invested.

Fair enough. The behaviour remains the same anyway. I'd picked the ALttP ones simply because of the white patch around the eyes that the LoZ and LA Octoroks had.

...but now that you make me think of it, with OoT having taken inspiration from AoL, maybe those are the octoroks we should be looking at. They have no white patch and though they wander around on the ground (most are stationary, but not all) they do a little hop upon firing their rocks, just like the octoroks of OoT do.
Though I have a hard time imagining that massive octorok from the beta screenshot doing a little hop before shooting. But eh, still very much possible.

>> No.6707285

>>6707240
To clarify, when I say the OoT ones make a hop before shooting you, I mean how they hop out of the water unsubmerging themselves.
Also, even if we didn't ever see them move at all in early videos and only had still images of them, the way they are arranged in those images seems pretty clearly they are not intended to be rooted in place.

The more I think about it, the more the little hop seems reasonable since otherwise they would be shooting at Link's shins (at least adult Link's, and it was him that we saw in just about every image from back then). Maybe the scaled up one would be programmed to not jump, unlike its smaller brethren.
Of course if we wanted them to make that small hop, that would only compicate the code further.
