Just keep at it. Ask the owner if he has any stock in the back. Make sure no one else is in the store. And if he asks you to close your eyes, you better damn well do it.

Dreamcast prices are pants-on-head retarded. I'm a consoomer myself, so I understand the appeal of having original games on the shelf, but most of its library isn't worth the asking price. Even the great games like Cannon Spike and Illbleed aren't worth $150 to $200. Just burn some discs and be on your way.

Or just get ODE from AliExpress, it's super easy to install and you don't have to hear that loud disc drive ever again.

It's why ever DC owner I know has at least 1 pirated game.

Yup, one of the many facets that spelled the end for Dreamcast. Anyone with a CD burner could replicate the experience 1-to-1.

That had nothing to do with it, the PS1 and PS2 were easily piratable and everyone I know had most of its library pirated, they didnt even need to do it themselves, any unofficial store sold them at about 1 dollar.
The DC flopped because of other reasons.

yeah, how are you supposed to compete with pic related? and sega didnt have strong exclusives like nintendo.
at the end of the day, most of the time is all about the games.

>PS1 and PS2 were easily piratable
Not nearly as easily as the Dreamcast, and like I said, there were a ton of factors at play regarding the fate of the Dreamcast. Mostly involving Sega doing a piss-poor job of management, and infighting between the Japanese and American branches.

>> No.6686597

>>6686593
The PS2 being backwards compatible helped in a big way too, not to mention it being lots of people's first experiences with DVD players.

>> No.6686661

>>6686593
The Dreamcast had an amazing catalog and 1:1 arcade ports (I would say better overall catalog than the N64 even), the problem was not piracy or not having a good catalog (Shenmue, exclusive Resident Evil Code Veronica, Skies of Arcadia, Phantasy Star Online, Sonic Adventure, etc. are great games).
Problem was poor management from SEGA and the failure legacy of the CD/32X and Saturn, among other things like >>6686594
said.
But I don't believe piracy was a key point, I don't know how much "harder" was to pirate PS1 and PS2, but it was pirated to hell specially outside of America and Japan.
Nintendo without the piracy issue could not beat Sony, it really isn't that much of an issue.
The was also the people effect, people became Sony fans with the PS1 thanks to the more niche kiddie approach of the N64 and the mediocrity of the Saturn, and it hit both Nintendo and SEGA pretty hard. The difference is Nintendo had so much money they could afford 2 generations of low-selling consoles, meanwhile SEGA had to stop or would go bankrupt.

Models manufactured before October 2001 or models marked with either a 0 or a 1 circled on the bottom. Don’t buy one with a circled 2.
Also you’ll need a CD burner that can go slooow for best results. I was getting 1 good disc out of 5 on a 10x minimum burner, scrounged up one that will go down to 4x and I haven’t burned a coaster since.
Other than that yeah, it’s as easy as googling CDI images and burning them to a disc. ezpz

Those stores are just the games no one wants anymore, so they dump them there for whatever they can get. You're not going to see actual good games because those aren't worth selling off for anything less than hundreds of dollars.

>> No.6691623

i member goin to gayslop stores ages ago. the used bins was MORE SPORTS SHIT THAN THE BINS COULD EVEN HOLD. it was a literal treasure hunt to find something that wasn't sports games vomit.

of course they never segregated out sports games. gamestop was a horrible place to work according to the poor souls who worked there. welp. problems of the past.

seriously those wastes of plastic should have just been melted down or something.

Where do you live, OP? I find the most fruitful regions are somewhere between "poorshit hick/nig town" and "uppercrust butt musk." If the place you're in is too uncultured to have ever really seen any sales of titles worth a shit in the first place, the chance you'll see a resale is even slimmer. If the place you're in actually has a lot of people who would have given a shit about good games at the time or a lot of collectors looking to reclaim/start a collection, the odds are just the same as the other. Midwestern suburban/metropolitan areas of not-so-major cities tend to be the sweet spot. Just enough community interest to have stores like that with a fairly healthy flow of good stock, but not so much to where you see guys in Batman shirts pouncing on any and all items of interest.

I have to use a boot disc for some of my games and you'll need one for real games that are imports, but a bunch of my games were literally burned in like the early 2000s and afaik most every game nowadays is self-boot

On that note, though, I used to live in Mississippi and every now and then you'd run across a trade-in for a game no one in that culture devoid shit pit would want. Scored, no shit:

>Threads of Fate ($5)
>Saga Frontier 1 & 2 (about $10 a piece)
>Parasite Eve 1 & 2 (about $8 a piece)
>Ogre Battle: MotBQ ($30)
>and probably a few others of interest that I'm forgetting, and same with the K-Mart there, but for current-gen-not-retro at the time; new 3D Dot Game Heroes for $3 among others

And all of the unspoilered shit was at the same place, granted not on the same day. I know we're talking about Dreamcast and not PS1, but you get my point. I can't remember their DC selection (wasn't collecting for it at the time) but I imagine much of the same could be said of it.

Some games like the original Resident Evil has some more violent content than US, and a lot would have less. The rating of games varies wildly.
