Dear /vr/,
I have not done playstation emulation in quite some time, is there a PSX emulator that you don't need to spend a gazzalion hours figuring out what configuration settings work best for the game you want to play yet?

>> No.667768

yeah, all of them.

>>667768
yeah... that's not true at all, try again

>> No.667819

if pSX isn't simple for you, then I just don't know what to say.

>>667795
You don't need to configure any of them on a per game basis. You are wrong goodbye

>> No.667838

ePSXe is so simple, even an iPhone owner can figure it out.

And iPhone owners can't figure out who to turn the damn things off.

pSX only works well on 2D games though, it looks like crap on 3D ones... and there are certain games that just don't work in it, like Seikoden 2 for instance

Are you referring to epsxe by any chance? If so, you are retarded if you have to spend "a gazzalion hours" trying to configure it to run every game properly.

>> No.667852

There's an emulation general on /vg/, use it.

Replace "ePSXe" with "PCSX-R" and you got your answers OP.

>> No.667925

pSX is the epitome of brainless PS1 emulation, but it's outdated and has compatibility and accuracy issues. Xebra and Mednafen are far superior as emulators, but are a little less user friendly.

My recommendation: Download RetroArch and use its Mednafen PS1 core. You need a specific BIOS, however, but everything is readily available in this link:

http://emulation-general.wikia.com/wiki/RetroArch

Once it's all set up, everything should "just werk". No plugins, no settings per game.

Oh, forgot to mention: like pSX, it's native software-rendering only, so no pretty 3D graphics. If you want that, get PCSX-R, and look at this link for recommended plugins and general settings:

This. HD graphics on PS1 games are a result of high-level emulation and hardware rendering, which is a lot less accurate than low-level emulation with software rendering. It's a big part of the reason why many games have graphical glitches on ePSXe and such. You want pretty graphics? You gotta work for them in some cases.

Have to agree with this.

I tried setting up ePSXe to play DQ7. Kept flipping through options but shit kept locking up. Tried pSX (it was a torrent of already setup PSX emu's) and I'll be damned if shit didn't run from the word 'go'.

My only nitpick is you can't retain aspect ratio on a resized window. Other than that, alt+enter to full screen while maintaining aspect ratio and it's golden.

I've also read in another thread some time ago that there's a DX/OGL program/plugin to run filters into any game. But I don't remember what it is called or if it'd work. If you want scanlines and shit though, apparently there's already a solution out in the wild.

RetroArch has the most advanced shader support of basically any emulator out there, and its PS1 core is far superior to pSX. You can even change the aspect ratio to your liking. I would look into it.

I use it for Snes. I'm not interested in filters though (maybe a light scanline at best). As far as AR, my only complaint was on resized windows. But I'm ok with going full screen to play. As I said, I don't really have any complaints. I tip my hat for your information though, sir.

I'm not OP but i really like this emulator, It's like all the emulators combined so i only need 1 rom folder. Even though this is not my first time hearing of RetroArch your post made me download it so thanks.
