The one thing I love the most about GCCX is that it isn't just about Arino. Unlike damn near every reality show in existence, the show's staff frequently get involved and have their own fans.

So I watched two GCCX episodes so far and they were...scarily addicting. I watched SFII and Castlevania III and was rooting for Arino, suffering with him, etc. I found myself surprisingly emotionally attached to the whole thing.

From here on out, should I go back to the beginning and watch chronologically? Or just pick out the games that are famous and I'm familiar with? Is it as good when he's playing some random Japanese game no one knows?

I would love to see Arino play Klonoa some day. Its probably not hard enough to really be worth an episode, but man I love that game

I love watching this show, but I can't stand watching him play games I've played. It's like watching your friend's mom taking a serious effort at trying to whip Dracula, it's just too painful for me.

I love his optimism and determination, seriously, I couldn't do this shit- but when I know what's going on so intimately I get over-invested and it becomes painful for me to watch.

So does Game Center CX have the same effect on retro game prices in Japan as Classic Game Room does here? As in, games featured on the show triple in price overnight?

yep. another trick is that all the powerups in the power up rooms re-spawn infinitely when you leave and reenter them, so there is no reason not to go into every dungeon with your weapon completely powered up. doing this makes the game alot easier.

As someone who has only very limited knowledge of Japanese culture, idol groups as a concept seem kind of nuts to me. Like, there is not even any pretension that it is art. It's pure marketing made for consumption, and the people of Japan obeyingly consume because that is what upstanding Japanese people do. On a related note, I found it strange that they had a marketer on board when they met the developers of the second Arino DS game. Over here in the Western world, we regard marketers as sneaky salesmen whose intents are purely exploitative, and if their work works to our benefit, it is purely coincidental and met with suspicion. He failed Final Fight because he couldn't make it to the final boss, even with the number of continues raised. He failed Ultraman because he had trouble defeating that final boss and then he only had time for one try at that last part.

And that quiz game he had to raise the number of credits, put the game on easy and even had to use 2P joining to double the number of continues to make it.

On the other hand, Super Mario World has pretty much unlimited conitnues, but the ending was quite intense because the time limit made it so he only had one last chance to defeat Bowser.

So as >>689729 said, it's pointless since even if he runs out of credits he'll just start again. Also, even if the game has unlimited continues, he still has to deal with time limits.

I'm at the end of season 4 and can't find the Ninja Gaiden episode (episode 29) subbed, only a weird version with a dubbed announcer and no other segments besides the challenge. Does a SA release exist?

Thats a licensed episode. You can find it on the DVD box set. SA has a release of the challenge segments which they weren't allowed to put on the DVD though

Getting his ass kicked by SMB3 was bad, but I'm going with failing +100 times against SMW's Bowser. I mean, what the fuck, every boss in that game was a goddamn joke.

If not that, two of the bosses he got stuck on in Gargoyle's Quest II can be defeated by LITERALLY RUNNING INTO THEM WHILE JAMMING B. But I think one of the ADs had trouble too, so maybe there was a lack of oxygen in the office.

Just watched my first episode(Mega Man 4, both parts).

I like it. Arino seems pretty chill. He does make some casual mistakes(not utilizing charged shots or sliding enough, wasting E-tanks like crazy, and other small things) but he also pulls off some good stuff. And overall he seems to "understand" the game, you know what I mean? Like, most people just don't "get" how games work. Anyways, neat show. I'll probably watch all of it eventually.
