What's your opinion on Pokemon Special Pikachu Edition: Yellow Version?

>> No.6666982

I prefer marpigs to scotpigs.

>> No.6666989

i liked it better than blue/red because you can get all 3 of the starter pokemon

>> No.6666993

Really good. I like the reworked sprites and it's nice to actually have color when playing it on a GBC. It's also more challenging because Pikachu is really bad stat wise compared to the starter evolutions you get in R/B. I love this game to death. I completed the pokedex on it with no glitches or cheats.

Upgrade in almost every way to red/blue, it's basically the same game but you can get all starters, there are extra bosses, bug fixes/balance adjustments, and a surfing minigame, but I think I prefer the more off beat sprites of red/blue to the anime accurate ones.

Doesn't that only get you pokemon from the last area you visited? Or one completely random pokemon based on your OT number?

>> No.6668202

>>6668094
You have quite a lot of control over which pokemon you get. The trainer fly glitch will let you encounter pokemon based off the special stat of the last enemy you faced. The pokemon's special stat gets stored and when you trigger the trainer fly glitch battle it gets read as the index number for the wild pokemon you're going to encounter. You can also use your own pokemon's special stat for it too by encountering a wild ditto and making it transform since the transformed stats will count.

Only problem with it is that some of the really high index numbers can be pretty annoying to get since there aren't trainers that have pokemon with high enough special stat on their own. Thankfully that's less of a problem in yellow since most of the highest number pokemon (all 3 starters and oddish/bellsprout) can just be gotten normally, the only high index number pokemon you might have to go out of your way on your own to get are Machamp and Alakazam.

I think there's even guides out there listing what each individual trainer in the game will give you if you do the fly glitch on them.

Fat Pikachu's swan song, they had already killed him in the anime by 1998. Pic related.

On a more game related level getting all 3 starters inevitably led to boring team composition. I wouldn't even play with people that had Yellow since the 3 starters were inevitable. The only thing worse than a Yellow player was a gamesharkfag.

The greatest thing about Yellow are some of the movesets that got improved.

For instance the Evee evos that got their moves changed thanks to Blue using them.

As a result, using the Evee evos as starters for yourself is actually fun and makes sense all you need to do is breed egs in GSC and transfer them into Yellow at the start of your game

To be pedantic, "Red and Blue" came after the anime. "Red and Green" came before and so did "Blue" (which gave the international versions their sprites)
>Nice try but nope, they were on-model for the designs that were present at release. Just because they revised the designs later doesn't render those 'off model.'
This is stupid. Sugimori art already existed for Red and Green when the games were first released and these show the designs later considered 'correct'.

"On-Model" vs "Off-Model" refers to when an animated show are worked on by secondary artists, and how close to the actual design proofs the end result ends up looking. This often refers to errors that arise only sporadically in the finished product, but are jarring enough to be noticed. Using this to refer to something like sprites is quite a reach to begin with. And again, revising a design doesn't render the old design 'off-model' because being 'on-model' refers to that internal consistency i mentioned above.

The Sugimori art came out day and date with Red and Green. Even if you want to say the art was made after Red and Green's sprites were already done, Blue came out well after the Sugimori art was finished and still isn't accurate to it.

>> No.6671568

>>6671559
The sprites are always the same, they aren't shown from varying angles or vantages, they're always flat. This means they have internal consistency. "Off-Model" would imply that sometimes the sprites look uncanny or inconsistent relative to your expectation of how those sprites normally look. Since they're stagnant, this is never an issue, and as a result, there's no "model" for them to deviate from. I hope you understand why you're reaching tremendously here. Why can't you just accept the criticism like a man and move on, instead of twisting your logic into a pretzal?
