Unironically how me and every boomer played retro games on emulators a couple decades ago on ZSNES or Genecyst or NESticle. It's only now, in our 30s, that we actually act pretentious and snobby about the right way to play games. And I genuinely do think playing with save states and shit is crap, but I know that's a cross-generational fuckup.

You're only ruining the experience for yourself. With savestates there's no tension or excitement, the experience feels empty when there is nothing on the line, I don't feel anything at all since there is no weight to any mistake I may make, you may as well play with cheats at this point. Deciding on a whim one day to play without savestates saved me from getting apathetic about the hobby.

An insistence on playing with save states actually harmed my enjoyment of the Fire Emblem games. You get so obsessed with doing everything perfectly and it becomes little more than trial and error. No critical thinking anymore. Everything the game was designed to do, test your strategic ability, provide tension because it will punish you for your mistakes, give you the thrill of just barely winning or the dismay of losing your favorite character, etc., all gone.

What's the point in saying your age? It's not like you'll post your legit ID for everyone to confirm. If you get called a zoomer for using save states, just deal with it and laugh it off. No need to seek for validation from anonymous users, zoom zoom.
>>6654613
To be fair a lot of younger guys do use 4chan, which is weird considering 4chan is a very web 1.0 style website, no like button, no share button, it's very anti-zoomer, yet zoomers love being here (yet they complain about boomers all the same). Weird.

I am in my 30s and there is no fucking way zoomers know about bloodlust software. I'm just being honest about how boomers abused save states before we got older and became interested in authentic experiences on CRTs, no save states, on vintage controllers.

I suffer from this illness. I never had a console, so i got used to saving a lot on emulators. Even on PC games i do the same. I got a little better recently by playing on emulators without Save States and on a PS3 my brother bought.

i do partially agree with you, but my time is limited and nothing sucks the fun out of a game for me more than having to constantly redo levels because of a crit hit (looking at you, fire emblem). Save states just make things more bearable, but it's a trade off

Also it’s worth noting that if you pull up all the gamefaqs for [classic game], you’ll notice the oldest were posted in the 90s and early 00s, before the zoomers were even created. And a lot of gamers abused the crap outta Nintendo Power, full-color game guides, etc. Playing without assistance is just a meme.

Yeah but there is no "user" in 4chan. Unless you count tripfags which are often shunned down unless it's for very specific purposes.
To be fair, anon didn't say it was a web 1.0 website, but a web 1.0 style website, which I think it is. 4chan is very old school and simple compared to actual social media sites that have feedback and intricate user-specific algorithms. 4chan is basically still like how old BBSs used to be in terms of navigations and usefulness. You just share information. There's no notifications tied to any account.

I did savestates when I first found out about emulation, to beat Ninja Gaiden on NES, a game that I had played as a kid and just accepted I would never beat. I just blazed through the game taking no damage, saving and loading every 10 seconds or so.
It's just not the same thing, an empty experience like watching someone else play it on youtube, you don't get any thrill and it feels like work.
So I decided not to do it again like that. I even managed to buy a real copy and beat it on real hardware. I was at the top of the world, man. That's what it's supposed to feel like.

On the other hand fuck PC shooters like Half Life and Medal of Honor Allied Assault where your enemies are bulletsponge hitscanners, I still savescum the fuck out of those to this day.

This is actually a fun way to play some games. Anybody calling you a zoomer didn't have Nintendo Power or a GameGuide growing up. The most fun I had was playing Lufia 2 with a full map and list of items and an early version of Internet Explorer used to print out a copy of the GameFaqs guide to help me. It was one of those things where I would glance at the guide "go to the next town, make sure to buy the new spells and talk to XXXX to unlock the next cave". I didn't have as much fun going around talking to every single person, I liked to get a good idea of where to go and what to expect.

Savestates are fine as long as you only do them at certain spots and not every five steps. I used them in the ancient cave and did not have a fun time. It's convenient to save your spot when you need to go for dinner though.

I'm a boomer and I did this in my teens. I don't do it now because I've realized playing games without a challenge is absolutely no fun.
