Pretty bad. It does nothing to fancy up the old characters or make them more accessible, so you have to fucking research them all or magically know how they play in order to make any sense of them. For example the Bungie dude basically plays like a fucking bathtub on wheels with shitty handling and shitty bullets but won't be changed because "hurrrrr that's not how marathon was hurrrrrrrrrrrrrr". Because all of the characters are so retro and from shit that isn't Doom everything looks ugly as shit. That's... the point. The entire point of samsara is to portray them as accurately as possible, while still being roughly even with one another.
And there's an entire tip screen you can use so you don't have to research a damn thing.

Also, SSG is doomguy's big trait. It's not much when you consider that Hexenguy can move faster than anyone, resist 1/4th explosion damage, pick up and store healing. Marathon guy can fly across entire maps, and quakeguy's quaddamage completely crushes the SSG. It's actually incredibly balanced for what it is, which you can tell when you consider so many people arguing about which classes are better.

Actually, it's not for Chex!
The short of the matter is that Marathon used different color flashes for different sources of damage, reflecting what had hit them. So I had to slap a unique damage type on pretty much everything and give it a different damage flash. The Hell Nobles' fireballs result in a green painflash, for example.

Chexguy and Dukeguy all have the entire list of damagetypes in their resistances/weaknesses, especially, and Marathonguy has different painstates for all of them.

If I'm understanding correctly, all Chexguy/Douk do is take all those damage values and slap a fairly global modifier on them (0.8/1.1 respectively); it's just that Marathon guy takes the individual damage types and associates them with a different flavor of screen color. Only question now is over explosive damage, but it looks like that's just meant to default to yellow to say "hey bro, you're takin' splash damage yo" or something to that effect.

Aye, correct! For the most part, everyone takes the same amount of damage from every source, except for Chexguy's global 20% resistance and Duke's global 10% weakness. The point of the damagetypes is to put different effects on the player.
For example, MarathonFusion is the only thing Invulnerability doesn't protect from, and Fire/Slime/WolfenFlame/MarathonPlasma/etc makes Ranger yelp loudly, and the different damagetypes have different colorflashes for Marathonguy.
It's really a lot less complex than it all looks.

I have added many new games to the torrent (it may not lookit, but it feels like a lot for me). I have added Bad Toys 3D, Alien Trilogy, In Pursuit Of Greed, Necrodome,Tek War, Doom 64, Harmony .wad , switched dos executables to sourceport executables for Shadow Warrior, added Setup Help.txt to every damned game so far, and am having difficulties with playstation (Disruptor, PO'ed) and 3DO (Immercinary) games. It does, it's just a little roundabout.
At the main menu screen, before you enter the game, hit tilde.
Type:

set samsara_punchdrunk 1
set samsara_uniquestart 4
set samsara_chainsawstart 1

Then hit New Game, select your char of choice, etc.
ZDoom doesn't handle multiplayer stuff well, so you have to manually set the multiplayer cvars.

So, recently updated my sourceports and loaders, and decided to play WhoDunIt. It worked for a good bit, but my graphics were not preferable for mouselook, so I switched the resolution size and made Zandronum run on hardware. The walls disappeared or were replaced with some oddly fashionable wall textures, so I restarted Zandronum to re-enter. I then tried to rejoin, and got pic related. I deleted my WhoDunIt wads + map wads, and re-downloaded from Doomseeker, and restarted. Same problem, pic related. I tried running different servers (Sur/vr/ival), and it worked fine, so I retried WhoDunIt again, and same story, pic related.

MonsterMash has been updated. Introducing a new monster, and doing some minor fixes to others.

-Added Serpent Demon, replaces Mancubus (Sprites based on Magma Serpent from R667; behavior loosely inspired by the Swamp Dragon from Mordeth E1) (33%)
-Vore replacement removed from Mancubus; Arachnotron replacement rate increased to ~15%
-Fixed Vore taking reduced splash damage (leftover from porting from other mod)
-Fixed Shadow and Afrit using incorrect frames for pain animation

Furthermore, I've created an alternate version designed for Samsara, so zorched monsters disappear correctly, Dook will taunt when he kills shit, and other Samsara niceties will work with the monstrosities. Currently only designed for & tested on the Zandronum version, though I don't imagine there'd be any real issue with using it in (G)Zdoom. Because Zandro's just slightly out-of-date compared to Zdoom, there are some minor changes:

-The Vore's projectile is slightly less "intelligent" when homing on the Z-axis.
-The Paladin no longer knocks back his target with the shield bash; damage is increased to compensate.
-The Paladin's grenade range is just slightly reduced to compensate for lack of lobbing at a distance.

Is there any particular reason on how Brutal Doom got very popular in the first place?

I know WHY it is popular - RIP AND TEAR, gore, and that many can relate the high amounts of damage done by each side to typical modern shooters amongst other things, but when Doom's modding community isn't as well known to the mainstream audience of gamers, the thread for it on the ZDoom forums has 382 pages, and practically every Doom thread made on /v/ is now centered around Brutal Doom, I just cannot help but wonder HOW it got big in the first place.

Even if it might bring in the casuals I suppose it does kind of help introduce new blood to custom Doom wads

It's meant to be his SSG equivalent but I do agree that it's flimsy to use. Too close and you damage yourself; given how you take 10% more damage and Megaspheres are only 50% effective this is something you cannot afford to do. Too far and the spread is too wide to do a bulk of damage. The sweet-spot is a bit too small.

Pipe Bombs are his chainsaw replacement and his jetpack to the Berserker pack. Speaking of which, wouldn't his Tripmines be better off if it tends to break maps?

Has anyone checked out Doomcenter?

It's not great but it's a bit more fun than it has any right to be. There's not much to do, but it's too addictive to sit in the middle of the city with a couple guns like a railgun and the Kamehameha move and teamkill or kill cops and get chased or kill stormtroopers or whatever the hell else is attacking.

In WDI, I usually spend most of my time frantically running through the level looking for items hoping to score a gun, but 90% of the time I find the same choice of wrench / shovel / pipe which don't differ in usefulness terribly, so I've gotten zero benefits from my searching, and that other 10% of the time, I manage to find a rifle or a pistol, and then when the murderer comes I manage to hit them with maybe 2 or 3 bullets if I'm lucky, and it does jack-shit against them.

I fair slightly better when I manage to work together with a group of players against the murderer, which is the most fun, but it's a bit up to chance whether I manage to work with anyone. Sometimes on occasion I'll be in the same room as someone when we see a death notification, so we can immediately trust each other, which is useful.

So, let's say I have these 4 cool powerups that I found in the Realm667 repository, but I want them to drop from enemies when I kill 'em just like the ammo, like this

If you just want some standard Doom monsters to drop them, the easiest way to do it would be to create "new" monsters that inherit properties from the old ones, then just add DropItem (whatever powerup you want that monster to drop) to those monsters. Then, create some monster replacers to automatically replace the original monsters with your own versions that are dropping your powerups - look for "RandomSpawner" on the Zdoom wiki to learn how to do this.

All in all, a really simple thing to do.
