What’s the best starting point for the Kirby franchise?

Should I start with the NES game, Dream Land 3 or Super Star?

Dream Land 2, 3, and 64 is basically a different series. Do not start with any of these unless you don't want just a chill and fun experience. Try Dream Land 1, Adventure, and Super Star, in that order, bro.

Best post. Once you play that you literally played everything.

Super Star is the series pinnacle, but the fact that it's a bunch of small campaigns in one might throw you off.
Kirby's Adventure is second to Super Star, it has an edge in that it's one big adventure as opposed to several smaller ones, but Kirby's moveset is a lot more simple in that game, and flying isn't as smooth since you have to press up to do it instead of simply double tapping A.

The real answer here is that everything retro with Kirby's face on it is worth playing.

So start with GB and move forward.

People dubbed Kirby's Dreamland 2, 3, and 64 as part of the "Dark Matter Trilogy"

A more gritty look into a cartoonish world holding a dark menace beneath the seams

Kirby’s Adventure is my favorite. It’s simple, but not so simple that you’ll be bored or unchallenged. There are a lot of secrets in the game as well, which will really hook you into it.

What, so it's a different series because the final boss bleeds a little?

Every game after Dreamland 1 has a freakish final boss, the Dark Matter trilogy isn't special.

Why hasn't superstar gotten a big romhack scene like mario? Its got so many amazing abilities you think people would hack in more. Or change up the treasure hunt map.

If i recall... it has the same director, shimomura throughout the 3 games; continuity between events and characters (aka ado/adeleine, dark matter etc) and an absence of meta knight.

It also has a much darker atmosphere that wasn't really captured during the GBA-DS era of games.

Wouldn't recommend starting with Dream Land 3, but either of the other two could be good starting points. Also consider trying Amazing Mirror. It's great and different from the other Kirby games.
