I had both, but i used my gameboy SP more, the only drawback with the SP is that you can't really use it with the gamecube peripheral, because the peripheral mushes the L/R buttons down. A lot of games that used this peripheral also relied heavily on the L/R buttons, like four swords adventures and crystal chronicles.

Honestly, Goodwill has been really hit or miss for video games. Most of the time they'll keep the stuff off the showfloor and put it on their auction site. I also have the displeasure of living near the only (I think) Goodwill Electronics store. It's called "The Grid" and just about every video game they get in our area is shipped there.

Yeah the original Advance's shit screen really harms the thing but the IPS upgrade is amazing. I've got an AGS-101 SP coming and it'll be interesting to see how the screens compare. I have a couple backlit AGS-001's which I will likely mod for a better screen too.

The fact that the original GBA runs off AAs is really a huge advantage too. I'm just curious to see how long a pair of Eneloops last in it though. I'm playing FFTA now which keeps track of play time, just to see how long the batteries last.

Only downside is the screen can't be adjusted. I'd like one which had a "low" for playing in bed in the dark, and a "high" brightness setting for playing in the daytime.

You'd have to make some logic to intercept button presses, or mill out a slot for another switch or something though.

OP specified it's for playing GB and GBC games. Plenty of devices that aren't retro but run retro games are discussed here. I have no idea what problem someone could have with a first-party device doing the same.

As far as my opinion on OP's post, my GBASP AGS-001 will stay charged for probably about eight hours of play or so, and until the end of fucking time if left alone as far as I can tell. I like the layout of the original model more, but the built-in backlit screen and rechargeable battery are just too convenient. Also, got lucky and found mine at a Half-Price Books for $12. Was pretty dirty and beat-up, but some alcohol and TLC cleaned her up good. Fantastic handheld for OGB and GBC.

Funnily enough, I can't stand it for GBA games and use my DS Lite for those.

Secondhand stores that don't specialize in media are definitely a mixed bag. Some know what they have when they're brought in and price them accordingly, and some see a video game and just put it in the electronic section for $2 even if it's an old Square title or something. Even if you know a place is pretty good about checking their inventory and pricing at market value, sometimes things slip through the cracks even at media stores. Overall, I highly suggest going to any secondhand store, but safely of course. Something tells me after Corona-chan starts to ease off, we're going to find some good deals because plenty of dead people's stuff is going to end up at Goodwill/etc. and their inventory is going to be so saturated it will be priced to sell.

I don't see how this is relevant to this thread, you anal retentive sperg. This thread is literally more relevant to retro in its discussion about GB and GBC games than the dozens of threads I see for third-party hardware builds for emulation at any given time on /vr/ (and those are fine too).

I bet you were the narc at the lunch table for when other kids were trading Pokemon/Yugioh cards under the teacher's nose. I also bet those kids kicked the shit out of you.

Imagine being this buttmad that someone isn't using your preferred hardware when they clearly just have some harmless preferences of their own.

>101's are dog shit and not worth buying.
Textbook sour grapes. I'm not saying they're worth what they go for, but they have easily the best screen out of everything pre-DS Lite.

enjoy your RF output only on certain consoles or having to buy duplicate consoles to play other region games instead of just putting in a switch

GBA player with GBi. You can even use a GBA as a controller if you have that adapter cable. Works with GBA, GBC and GB games. Only snag is that to get the best video output you either need that GCvideo thing or official component cables.

Emulating on an NDS was quite rice. But most emus on PC run MOST GB and GBC games just fine. Pokemon games might need a bit of tinkering or patching...

I just finished final fantasy adventure for the first time using retroarch and its old game boy filter with a gb skin I tweaked, and it was by far the most comfortable way to play that system ever as far as I'm concerned.

Eh, I'd emulate. Emulation for these consoles has been perfect for over a decade now, and they weren't meant to run on a CRT either way.

Except that with emulation you get latency no matter what, so If you are autistic enough to notice the difference between 2 and 5 frames of lag its unplayable.

Latency is mostly just introduced through the actual display device rather than emulation or anything, I doubt you'd get more latency from a modern display than the built in LCDs.
