I just load up on games from my favorite genres and just get the "best of" every other genre. Subjecting myself to the entire library seems painful.

Id love to see a full database for each console/game with game ratings, reviews, information on version differences, port differences, regional differences, patch notes. I'm surprised it doesn't exist but even finding out what things changed between a rom 1.0 and a 1.1 ROM seems nearly impossible sometimes

Well duh, why wouldn't people want to try more games? I've played roughly 2,000 arcade games in MAME, and I'm currently on a quest to play every game that was ever released on Windows 3.1. There is no such thing as decision paralysis, only more games to play. Don't know what to play? Pick the first game on the list you haven't touched before, and play. If it sucks ass, move onto the next game. There's always more retro games to play.
