Yes, currently trying to 1CC Gunbird. Started with the shitty Psikyo collection for Switch (cheapest cash grab ever - don't buy) using an arcade stick but now playing on Saturn on a CRT with 3D controller and it suddenly feels much more doable.
Also I can't believe how soulful the arcade port is. It's very nice

Go through the libraries of Psikyo, Raizing and Takumi. There are good lesser known developers too like SKONEC (Psyvariar, Homura), Alfa System (Shikigami No Shiro), Milestone (Radirgy, Karous), G.Rev (Border Down, Strania), Qute (Judgement Silversword, Eschatos) and others. Lots of good doujins too like Crimzon Clover World Ignition, Rolling Gunner, Battle Traverse, Hellsinker and Blue Wish Resurrection.

I guess the later one. The original board is powered by a single SH2. The hardware supports alpha blending, something the ports replaces with the usual mesh transparencies.
I seriously doubt that the Saturn lacked the power for a good port. Guess it wasn't worth the extra afford.

All three games are fantastic! I'm not sure if the Saturn port of RayForce aka Layer Section is arcade perfect in TATE though - it's definitely not in YOKO (designed to be easier). Still plenty hard, but MAME might be the best way to play it (and only newer MAMEs, 215 and above). RayStorm is a truly epic game; would definitely recommend it too.
