What Saturn games/ports are actually better (graphics and/or gameplay) than their PS1 counterparts?

Street fighter alpha 2 and 3 had much less cut frame data, x-men vs street fighter cut so much from the ps1 release that I couldn't even list them all. Capcom games in general were better on the saturn, barring resident evil.

Outside of those, IDK, more often than not the real hardware pushers of each platform were exclusive, you couldn't expect to run dragonforce on the ps1, or metal gear solid on the saturn, they're just very different hardware.

>> No.6598692

MMX4 PS1 is missing some realtime lighting effects on character sprites, e.g. the foreground lighting from spotlights in the opening stage, and some frames. The game also looks like it has an emulator filter over it no matter what you do, I don't know if's a product of dithering or something else the PS hardware does automatically, or what.

95% of the 2D arcade ports are objectively better on Saturn. Reason the PSX has just enough 2D hardware capabilities to display a static background image. Then the "sprites" are 2D textures on flat polygons. Whereas the Saturn is a real 2D platform.

Policenauts censored some of the boob-touching, had less content and had choppier 15fps FMVs on PS1.
The Sega Saturn version was as uncensored as the 3DO and PC-98 versions, had tons of bonus content not present on the PS1 version, Virtua Gun support and fluid 24fps FMVs.

The 24fps FMVs actually help in establishing Policenauts more as an interactive anime film and it shows off how great the animation is even to this day.

Saturn version is fucked.
>not optimised for NTSC so the aspect ratio is wrong.
>bugs that got fixed for the PSX, didn't get fixed on Saturn until the Jap release
>framerate is inconsistent vs. the PSX's steady 30. Saturn can go higher, but whenever the camera moves or there's a enemy on screen it tanks it lower.
>color palette is too dark
>the textures in the EU/US version are worse than the PSX
All it has going for it over PSX is better draw distance, unique water surface graphics, and straighter textures.

2d games.
I think there is a exception with In the Hunt that eh PS version is better but i don't remember the specifics, in general 2d were better (OR MUCH BETTER if you factor the ram carts) on Saturn.
Now 3d every single game runs worse on Saturn, yes even Powerslave, the Saturn version is better but still has worse performance.

most capcom games that utilize the expansion cart do this. On the other hand, SNK early ports are just lazy neo geo cd conversions. KOF95 is the exception, it has three second loading times between rounds, probably because of it's unique expansion cart. All snk games have better loading times than it's psx counterparts tho.

pretty sure a "top 10 better saturn ports" video is gonna appear on youtube soon.
