There was a whole lot of nothing going on. You have the player backtrack so much, but don't give him anything else to do except walk through straight hallways.
Use height variation, add some variety that isn't a snaking path of parallel hallways. I'd also say switch the Cacos at the very beginning with the Revenants. Despite having roughly the same amount of health, I think fighting Revenants with the Shotgun is more dynamic because you can bait out their melee attacks. Cacos are just there and aren't very fun to fight in that kind of scenario because they just act as fatter Imps.

Most encounters can be trivialized by running back to the area you came from. The big trap before the blue key should lock the player in. The final room was also made too easy by killing the archvile from the doorway. Maybe make that room a point of no return (i.e. a large drop off) to force the player to fight the archvile on its own terms, since the arena layout is quite nice. More enemies in general would be nice too since it was quite easy overall, health placement felt good though. The second room with the hellknights was my favourite encounter due to tight space for circlestrafing, and the raising lava and dark staircase were my favourite visuals. The layout would be more interesting if there were some branching paths. It's also underdetailed but I'm sure this is a very early version. Good luck anon!

Too many right angles.

The very first fight vs. the shotgunners and cacos could be improved if there was no wall for you to hide behind - consider adding a switch that lowers the wall to reveal the shotgunners and cacos.

The next room with the hellknights on ledges would be better if the hellknights were instead on the floor and could walk up to you and potentially trap you. Maybe keep all 3 hellknights on UV and reduce the number to two on skills 2/3.

Remember that you can add spaces beyond the 2048 units, as long as the player cannot reach them. The revenant room could look really cool with some windows looking outside.

Something about the revenant room strikes me as off. Either lower the stairs because they are too steep, or make the stairs taller so you have to fight them on a stairset. Also, this is too easy for UV - you could double the amount of revenants here on skill 4. Skill 2, 2 revs; skill 3, 3 revs, etc.

Remember to add explosive barrels - instead of adding barrels to hurt the monsters, add barrels that can potentially kill the player if he isn't paying attention.

Put imps in those narrow ass hallways! Those hallways are barely big enough to allow you to dodge fireballs. Instead of a stairway leading into those narrow hallways, make it a ledge so that you cannot run - you have to dodge fireballs in the narrow hallways.

When you cross the linedef in pic related, make imps teleport in behind you so that you cannot simply use this door to corner camp.

The room with the baron+mancubus should probably be 4 mancubi on UV.

Put an arch-vile in the blue-key room on UV in the far back to resurrect demons like an asshole - don't put him there on lower skills.

Trap the blue key itself with a linedef that warps in demons by where the first two chaingunners are. On UV warp in another archvile, on lower skills replace him with a mancubus or revenant

You have to rocketjump to get to all of El Obscuro's eggs to destroy them get the true ending.

So many firsts in Rise of the Triad. Not only was it the first FPS to have rocketjumping, it literally required it for the best ending. What Tom and those guys achieved on a mangled and hacked version of the Wolf3D engine is nothing short of remarkable.

Played until e3m3 of Heretic. It's a 4/10 for me so far. Most of the artifacts are unnecessary, and it's very shitty how all but one of each are removed from your inventory after you finish a level. The levels are devoid of life, look ugly, there's a large lack of textures (99 in total iirc). The enemies are unvaried and largely forgettable. The weapon balance is horrible; the dragon claw, hellstaff and firemace pretty much execute the exact same function, just with different damage values. It's far from challenging too.
Compared to Doom 1's half-step it took to Doom 2, Hexen is a whole new beast from Heretic. Play Hexen, Hexen's good.

They're about as unpredictably dangerous as their vanilla counterparts. Those fireballs can either be shrugged off harmlessly or just instantly ruin you, and they won't explode on walls until you break line of sight. I got an idea on how to fill the empty space by the start. See pic related. You could place a cacodemon there on skills 2 & 3, and put a pain elemental there on skill 4.

Once you grab the red key, a pain elemental warps in across all difficulties.

Once you grab the blue key, another PE warps in on skills 2 & 3, and an arch-vile on skill 4. On skill 4, put another arch-vile in the exit room so that you cannot simply run past the arch-vile mid-map to exit the level; on skill 2, put a cacodemon (400 hp) in the exit room, and on skill 3, put a hellknight (500 hp) or mancubus (600 hp) for the same reason, so that the player cannot simply run past the PE.

Maybe you could move the starting weapons and ammo directly next to the moat in a ring around it to force the player to run up to it unarmed to grab the shotgun.

Maybe you could add two or three moats and have mancubi warp in there once you grab the red key, and add obstacles like those dead-plant-cactus-looking-things to make the player have to zig-zag around the moats. Instead of boxes of shells, add those 4-shell-things to prevent the player from accidentally wasting a box.

Maybe you could make the moat (or one of the moats) large enough to warp in a cyberdemon..

Spent some time playing TNT Evilution again. Last time I got filtered by Metal. And I think the time before that. This time I upped the stakes and almost got filtered by Open Season. Misaligned textures started bothering me because I was very self-conscious about them in my maps so seeing lights bisected by doortracks makes me cry.

MAP01: Nothing too impressive, but why do I need to walk up to blue door to lower some random wall?
MAP02: I don't really like jumping through the windows onto stairs, this sort of progression makes no sense.
MAP03: Really good central hub area, regular everything else, secret teleporter that makes no sense. Why would I want to get shot from all directions?
MAP04: You know the one. Interesting exploration, but doesn't feel rewarding. Should've given me plasma or something in the end.
MAP05: Oh my god what is wrong with those people? Why do I need to walk up to random places to open completely separate random places? Why do I need to use random pieces of compspan? Why is blue door brick-textured? Why is there a wall made of yellow key kard lights?

I do think they went too far with low ammo caps in Eternal. Caribbean Life has the most new assets, and is also my personal favorite. Duke it out in DC is also very good. Nuclear Winter is a little lacking, and the first few levels are even just Christmas themed versions of levels from Episode 1.

Really? I'd imagine it wouldn't be that complicated compared to converting Doom to Quake, considering Wolf maps are just flat planes for floors and ceilings and another one for walls. When other devs finally grabbed him by the balls and demanded a design document, he wrote them two pages amounting to "badass warrior, mighty hammer", and then Carmack finally had it and kicked him out. I can only assume that Heretic 2 was what he was aiming at, maybe he rubbed off on Raven when he was working with them.

The Sprite Fix has two files, a wad and a dehacked file. The dehacked file only does a few things, like makes zombiemen and cyberdemons have a bright frame while firing instead of remaining completely dark - it helps a ton when dodging cyberdemon rockets. Anyway, you can load this dehacked file along with Vanilla Smooth Weapons in Crispy Doom and it will work flawlessly. However, you cannot load this dehacked file along with vsmooth.wad inside of PrBoom+ for some reason, as it will cause you to take twice as long to switch weapons from your chaingun for some reason which will also lead to demo desyncs; otherwise the files work flawlessly and you can even use them to play demos and no desyncs will occur (which was one of the original goals of the authors)

Way too easy, anon. I think you could put some teleport destinations inside of the section containing the blue key so that as soon as you attack the PE, stuff starts to warp in. Put some teleport destinations in the starting area as well - but make those monsters only warp in after you shoot the switch to get out of the blue key section.

You could put block lines around the moat so the player cannot run up to the cage and prevent the PE from spawning stuff. You could use this moat thing to fill up some of the empty space. Maybe leave the moat thing empty and only have stuff warp into it after you shoot the switch to get out of the blue key section. Maybe have multiple things, one of them with a PE, one of them with a revenant, and popcorn enemies spawning around them in the open

I recognize grabbing rockets from a forced damage sector is questionable. Also, something else questionable- I allow you to grab the blue key at any time but if you don't have the plasma gun you're unlikely to beat the fight. This is currently my favorite idea for what to do to 'fix' the level: remove all the rockets and rocket launcher in the map, put a backpack, 20 boxes of rockets, and a rocket launcher in the starting room, replace the starting shotgun with an SSG, and have the player go crazy. The SSG spawn is pretty poopy IMO and fighting a hellknight by the spawn with a plain shotgun is boring. You could use the chaingun but the chaingun is better used elsewhere.

I think forcing the player to grab the plasma rifle before the yellow and blue keys is a good idea. Put a red key next to the plasma rifle, and lock the doors where the blue and yellow keys are with a red key door. Yes I know this would cause the player to have to revisit the plasma rifle room but I don't have a better idea right now.

The chaingunners behind the windows wander around so you have to camp and wait for them to re-emerge. Maybe lock them inside of monster block lines by the windows? But then this would interfere with the arch-vile fight later.

The arch-vile fight behind the blue key door needs at least a large energy cell pack.

I just realized why I desynced your earlier demos, it's because I used my updated WAD to try and do it. Now I've seen your demos. My intention was that the player would treat the rocket launcher room like a home base and play the first fight kind of like a shooting gallery with a rocket launcher, which you seemed to be adverse to.
