Itt we discuss playing non retro games on retro pc hardware. Ie win 98, or older. Because THIS is by the rules retro and ps2 isnt.

OK but realistically, who's going to play non-retro games on retro PC hardware? The performance is probably abysmal, and most people don't even have that old hardware at hand anyway.
Stop being obsessed about /vr/'s rules. Either accept them, or move to another board/site. Nobody's gonna hold you hostage here.

Depends on the hardware, and the game. Like, if you had a high-end system from the end of '99, you'd still be able to get by pretty well with some games into '02/'03 (and Half-Life 2 as well, since Source scales quite well)
But something like say, Grand Theft Auto III or VC would run quite well on an 800MHz PIII or Athlon along with a Voodoo 3, which isn't even the best card you could get in '99.
