No, I think it's the orange centipede thing, or possibly a blue one.

Yes. The orange one is Moldorm and is a worm.
The manual even says Lanmola is a gigantic centipede.

i've noticed something lately... idk when it began, but in the early early EARLY days of vidya, print ads were really simple and full of creative freedom. different artists would make wildly different imaginings of IPs in tie-in material. even official guide art could be pretty odd. and delightful.

generally, probably most were very very simple. that really simple, small, flat-colored 60s-70s anime style.

today there is some really simplistic art, but generally what i notice is there's a pissing contest to have all the art for an IP be as super polished and elaborately detailed as possible. there's a pissing contest for super hyperrealism, to the point where the art is 10x more detailed than real things.

like people, armor, cars, guns, etc. would be crazy overdesigned and the real life things looked like little doodles compared to the art.

and even cartoony art would be a million years in photoshop. so.

i'm just noticing a design trend here. i miss that zelda 2 guidebook aesthetic.

The art that Nintendo made for SMW-era Mario was beautiful. Peak Mario, combining fun, soul and cool to a perfect balance.

He did art the first four Zelda games for Nintendo Power's US guides before they started phasing his stuff out in favor of official art.

I think he did some Dragon Quest stuff for US guides too. Or the manuals, I can't remember. I just know Toriyama's art wasn't used internationally until the gameboy versions.

Same man. He was my favorite Nintendo character until Yoshi story happened. Now he's probably not even in my top 20. What kills me is when they draw him in 2D for promotional art, he almost looks like the original version ( albeit with giant hands and a shorter neck and tail. ) but a lot of good that does anyone.

it probably has to do with the market since today is so easy to get access to this great technology that lets you pull off crazy effects so artists have to try harder to basically get the job
