I never found the 3D Zelda titles much fun and much preferred the more "arcade" style action of the NES games. Majora's Mask improves some simple issues OoT had (like text speed), but isn't a game I go back to because the overall core experience is just not what I want in a video game.

He fell into a bottomless pit then le "you've met with a terrible fate haven't you" and people aren't meant to go into the lost woods because like that one angsty kid from ocarina of time you'll die and become a monster. DMT trip, the game (hence bosses looking like a DMT trip in mask).

Link is a stalfos dreaming while in mask.

In awakening he's dying of dehydration while floating on a bit of his boat after a storm. Hallucinating and dreaming.

There was some shit that is valid, like buying one thing at a time, how fucked you could be with the platforming, and having to restaft a whole chain if you fuck up, but part of his misery was from not leaning into the game mechanics and lack of skill.

Get the warp to the dungeon and the unlock song, then fuck about doing sidetasks until you reset time, then you'll have the full three days to play the dungeon. You can literally just mow down a patch or two of grass and get plenty of replacement arrows and bombs. I think OoT is better but only played MM way later.
OoT is more of the epic adventure that the Zelda experience entails, while MM is more world-building and atmospheric. OoT you help people in towns and stuff so you can get items that'll help with your quest to save the world, where MM has you helping people because they're real characters that have 3 days left to live and want some closure in one aspect or another.

MM is like a TV series, while OoT is like a movie.
I think MM is a more mature and developed work with themes of mortality, societal disarray and terrorism (ie. Skull kid could be a parallel to the lonely school shooter archetype); where as OoT is more of a traditional coming-of-age call to adventure type tale.

MM is kind of like RDR2 - Lots of bit parts that add to an overall immersive and lore-rich world that is ripe for discussion and analysis, while OoT is more like RDR1 - More straight-forward and linear but a compelling story from the outset. That analogy is kind of weak but just thought of it.

They probably changed the level design for the better, I admit. But for those who wanted a definitive way to play MM as it was originally, it was a huge let down. I don't know every change, but these are the ones that stuck out to me:
-Owl statue saving is dumbed down and easier
-Colours don't quite match the original's vibe
-You could time travel to within the hour of an event, as opposed to 6 hours(I'm not 100% on this now, but I think it's true)
-Boss fights became longer and had puzzles in between combat, there are also giant glowing eyes you have to hit, and they look awful aesthetically(my opinion)
-Zora swimming became a lot slower, and they had to change the moon dungeon to incorporate this. Yes, you can use magic to go fast, but you don't feel as free.

The hype when it came out was just insane too because it was so different than anything that came before. while MM recycled all that OOT made for a new story and a lot of people seem to prefer it nowadays, it just didn’t have the groundbreaking impact that OOT did.

Did anyone hear that story about how Miyamoto claimed he came up with Zelda? When he was a kid he took a lantern into a cave to explore it. So he wanted to capture that feeling. I get that from Zelda I strongly and OOT but not so much from MM.
