Bought a Japanese Dreamcast.
Live in UK - 230/240V, need to step down to 100 - 120V
Any recommendations as to what one to buy?
Someone mentioned this one to me https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0009K6M44
But does anyone else have any others they could recommend? Is above a good one?

Make sure it’s not just voltage but frequency too. UK is 240v/50hz and JP is ~100v/60hz.

Cool, thanks. do you use one? if so, what one?

Dreamcast only needs 22wt, and your link is 50wt, so it means it will work fine.

I don't think he even understand what you need. Don't bother with his information.

I don’t think you know what you’re talking about. Feeding an electronic device the wrong frequency AC signal is potentially more dangerous than the wrong voltage.

Japanese devices use both 50 and 60 hz

I have a Nissyo 120v down to 100v transformer, have had it for years and no problems.

They also make 220-240v down to 100v model too, supports both 50hz & 60hz. Look for the ones that look like pic related, it’s what I have.

You could replace the PSU with a PAL/Universal one

Whatever isn't a cheap piece of shit and fits your needs. It's worth spending a little extra on these. When a shitty one fails it will likely take your DC PSU with it. There are a lot of options and ways you can use these. For example. I use a brick with a power strip so I can run a bunch of stuff off one device.
You can ignore >>6564630. He's retarded. Terminal case of Dunning-Kruger.

>>6564841
This or some sort of pico psu/whatever is really your best option. But not having a transformer laying around in case you need one is the mark of a soiboi.

>> No.6564950

You know what, fuck it. Sure just go plug your shit into whatever, it’s probably fine. Ac, dc, 120, 240, 50, 60, those are just letters and numbers, not important. Just open up your electronics and pop some shit some guy from the interwebs sold you on in there and it’ll probably work.

If you'd ever bothered using step-down converters then you've known that its a given to have 60hz on output, and this info isn't even worth mentioning.

>> No.6565215

>>6565186
If you’d ever actually bothered to actually read what converters say on them, it usually reads 50/60hz on both input and output, because the frequency is just passed through and only the voltage is affected. This means, for example, given a 240/50 source the output on a 120v stepdown will be 120/50, not 120/60. As someone else already pointed out in this thread, Japanese electronics typically will accept a 50 or 60 hz signal no problem, however some other devices are less forgiving.

Looking at these, but none seem to have the UK plug on the mains end

Ended up going for this one. cheers

he wasn’t talking about the specific model in pic he even said so
>They also make 220-240v down to 100v model too
how’s that reading comprehension coming along?
