If burning discs is working for you I'd maybe stick with that for now as a few games are still buggy on PSIO. My PS1 no longer reads discs which is why I didn't really have anything to lose by getting one. Most games I have played on mine have worked flawlessly though. The only minor issue I've come across is being unable to change the CD audio level in Soul Blade, and the music abruptly stopping at the end of a match instead of fading out.

the thing on the left looks an ardiuno nano that you can flash with psnee. a lot of people have those around from "learn electronics" kits. it's cheaper than buying a hand of attiny chips and a programmer. maybe he's hacking on on the code and wants to reprogram it frequently? nanos are good for that.

not sure what the breadboard on the right is, probably to intercept wires for probing. this looks more like a reverse engineering/hacking setup than some mod chip.

i've enjoyed mine so far. i'm not liking the parallel port access. i switch out my sd card a lot because i do not have a large capacity card and you need to unload/load the sd card to switch discs for some games. it feels like you're moving around something that is not really securely screwed or mounted to the console. I'm thinking about just cracking the bitch open and hard wiring with the psio to the parallel port and have the sd slot under the disc cover like a gdemu.
