This video only confirms that raytracing is just a meme to sell "modern" cards. More news at 11.

Watched a few seconds of it and in my opinion it looks like dogshit. Basically just gives the whole image an overexposed look, with things randomly changing colors. The graphics are just too simple for the effect to add anything of value.

Retards actually don't understand you can't just slap a shader on top of some models and call it day. Anyway, that's just global illumination.

>> No.6540085

It looks nice minus the overexposure, but the raytracing isn't adding anything that existing shaders can't do.

Raytracing has potential but it's still way too early for anything that doesn't feel like a tacked on gimmick to come out of it.

>> No.6542049

Things often start as gimmicks until they catch on and evolve. Full raytracing is undoubtedly the future of gaming, a distant future, but still. RTX is just a proprietary gimmick that'll die just like PhysX.

And consoles, too. But we all know that developers will just rely on the sheer brunt of the machines, power upgrades are there just to encourage lazy programmers to brute force their sloppily written code.

1. There is no definition how the individual materials should behave, just the default diffuse maps of the game. So naturally it looks plain wrong.

We're probably never going to see the assets of the promo pics ever being released or shown off. Even if Nintendo or some studio still had the assets (there's a good chance they don't), they barely have any incentives to show off or release the assets and there's a good chance the assets themselves can't be used on modern PCs (the assets could've used NURBS for heaven's sakes).

As for why the mod looks so bad, it's just slapping a GI shader onto the game and nothing else. It seems like the shaders are using the normal shaders instead of custom RT hardware (tanking performance in the process) and the shader wasn't complemented with any kind of Physically Based Rendering (PBR), making everything too shiny. Pic related is what you get when you implement RT in a 90s 3D game properly.

>> No.6546472

The tile floor reflections look amazing. The rest just looks like stupid shit. Whoever did this just did new tech things without considering how to use the tool. Like a kid who does his first mlg killstreak compilation.

Anybody notice that these videos are autistic with the rotating camera? Now I think it SHOULD be limited in rotation and distance because these guys literally abuse the analog camera to the point that it's game breaking. I personally think fixed camera is better for 3D games with the occasional adjustment being necessary but some people literally use the camera control more than the regular character movement.

i used to play with enhancements and texture packs and all that when i was a teen too, but after a while i found that they're just interesting because they're different, not because they're better, and the effect wears off and reveals itself to be worse than the original graphics

yeah but at least with other enhancements there's a point, like a higher resolution could have an appeal. This is literally just a different shader they are somehow trying to pass off as a wild difference.

Now this is something I can get behind. The models and texture quality clash horribly with the dated animations, but this is how I'd imagine those renders would look like if they were animated. Just give it time, also trips.
