OP was referring to the actual PS1 (One) which came out 20 years ago in the year 2000. It actually outsold the PS2 during its first year. Three years later, the Playstation 2 DVD recorder known as PSX came out. The original Playstation's developmental title was PSX possibly because Sony was originally going to partner with another company such as Nintendo (making it the PSN) and the X was used as a placeholder for the partner company's name.
