I still have yet to check out the retro store that opened in my town a year or so back.

Tired of being depressed by eBay prices so perhaps I will check it out and see if it is moderately priced.

I love my retro game store, but I have no idea how they stay afloat.

Guy working there told me once that their prices on used games are exactly 20% undercutting gamestop, and that gamestop employees only get a 15% discount - so it's cheaper for them to shop at the retro store.

Not that they do, unfortunately.

I love my retro game store because the owner only accepts cash and runs it in the back of a tattoo place. It's fucking awesome, I never see any stock really changing and I've bought up a healthy amount of his stuff. His prices on consoles are the lowest I've ever seen:

The guy's prices are exactly on par with like game websites, and I'm worried he'll go under... but he's been in business since 06' and I see only a few people in and out... He does have some really rare things. The only turn off is on weekends he's got his 5 yr old son and 4yr old daughter hanging out with him at the store gaming or watching tv. But those kids are fuckwin

It was worse than I could of conceived considering the area I live in. I didn't know the retro hipsters even invaded here.

But it wasn't totally a bust. My local pawn shop sold me a perfect condition SNES for $30. No cords or controllers but I have those lying around anyway.

The shop I frequent usually sells on the lower side of amazon prices. So if something is 20 online they charge 20-25. Not too bad considering you get it then and there and you save on shipping, plus, the old man that runs the shop is pretty cool about returns. Hes been in business since 1988 I believe. Gave me a tour of his storage area and told me how he bought Ataris and games for pennies back when the NES was the big thing. Kind of inspired me to hold off on buying PS3 games until places like Walmart start selling them for a song.

I use one. They're nice, and they're easy to install. Haven't had any compatibility issues yet, but they also sell replacement ones that are near identical to the original controller's if you're worried about that.

They have disappointed me. Place has been around since the mid 90s in various locations. Thought they had disappeared completely till I found them again like a few days ago. Got the fun news that they had just recently had a big sale and that cleared out all of their good Sega CD and Saturn games like a week beforehand. I live by 3 goodwills, and three retro game stores: Disc replay (indy), the Exchange, and game exchange. Depending on the item the prices vary. I got a model 2 genesis for $6 at godwill, a dmg gameboy with tetris for $5, a grape gbc with pokemon red and lion king for $20, a fat ps2 for $10, a gray ps1 for $10, a gamecube with gameboy player for $15. Alos, why do the retro game stores charge $45 and up for nes and snes? I bought a retron 3 to play the games and an hour later I saw the genesis and couldn't pass it up.

The only retro game store around here was Play-N-Trade. They were the jew-iest around, but it was my only choice. I payed 30$ for a LttP cartridge with the alternate label, 25$ for Mario 64, and they were asking like 20-30$ for NES games. They closed a couple of months ago, and now the only game stores are the 2 Gamestops. I honestly can't wait for when the retro game market finally crashes.

Gaming Source is ok but they pay the least for trade-ins out of any store in the area and their prices are higher than Retro Games Plus. They do the best job of cleaning up old carts and replacing batteries, though.
