Bros. I fucking love this game and it has revived my interest in challenging games like it. The problem is that I just can't get into the NES ones; they are too ball busting. What are other essential Classicvanias.

You might like Bloodlines on genesis/megadrive, anon.

It's not nearly as challenging as the nes games to clear, but it has two characters with pretty interesting movesets (Lecarde steals the show IMO with his cool i-frames and agressive playstyle) that you can really learn to stylihsly whip the game with if you git gud.

Also the aesthetic is really cool and features michiru yamane's musical debut.

NES Castlevania and Dracula's Curse aren't that bad. There are tricks which can help you beat the most challenging parts in either game.

Chronicles is a port of Akumajou Dracula on X68000, you'll want to play the original X68000 version and not Chronicles

This being said that game is as ballbusting as the NES ones

Really? I like Rondo but I found CV4 to feel definitely better on the controls, and the graphics, while pretty much on par with Rondo, are still ultimately better due to more detailed backgrounds.
Anyway you can't go wrong either way, great games.
