Did the original PC Engine controllers have a textured D-Pad? I bought the official PCE Mini controller by Hori recently and the D-Pad has kind of a rough texture on it, making it somewhat uncomfortable. My original US TG16 pad is smooth and pretty comfortable for quick maneuvering. Same thing with my "Old Skool" brand knock-off controller. I'm just wondering if this was an intentional attempt at accuracy on Hori's part or if they tried to "improve" it, because IMHO it kinda ruins it

Uhhh I'll have to dig mine out of the closet and check they're smooth as far as the tg16 goes. I think pc engine is the same I havent touched mine in years

I'm thinking about taking the d-pad out of my knock-off TG16 controller that I never use and swapping it with the Hori. That would solve the problem, but I'm still curious why they made it like that

I have a few controllers. The US TurboDuo pad as you can see here has a light texturing on the cross section of the d-pad. Same with the SuperGrafx/CoreGrafx 1 pad. The Avenue pad 3 and the Avenue Pad 6 has the same slight texturing but with 3 bump friction lines. The 6 button pads from the Duo-RX and PC-FX have a different cross shape, but it too has a slight texturing. I do not have a CoreGrafx 2 pad, US Turbografx-16 pad, nor original PC-Engine pad (nor its turbo enabled variant you have pictured), so I cannot comment on how those are. The texturing is quite light so maybe with heavy use and calloused thumbs it could easily smooth out.

What the fuck did the toggle switches actually do?
I always just flipped them around for the optimal jump distance in Bonk and never saw another use for them

Those aren't turbo switches? Maybe how fast repeated presses are recognized.

I always thought it was adjustable per-button turbo. Kinda defeats the purpose of most SHMUPS, though, don't you think?

That's what they are

>>6519994
Doesn't defeat the purpose at all. If you'd played a few shmups you'd know that some don't give you the fastest, or even a steady, stream of shots with the fastest setting.

How is the Hori controller in general? I found the one that came with the TG16 mini is a little stiff. Please looking to get a 2nd controller so I can play with the mrs.

Do the turbo switches work on PC, or is that a software thing?
