Does anyone have midipower 5.0's midi files? i can only find mp3s on the net

>> No.6511435

Here you go anon. I put Midi Power 1-6 folders there because why not

Pretty cool website for listening to game midis with different Soundfonts: https://mmontag.github.io/chip-player-js/browse

AnotherXG seems to be a rather nice alternative to SC-88, but some of the other alternatives create quite interesting mellow tunes out of these songs. Nokia 30 was surprisingly great.

You can download midi-files from there by checking which resources the page loads from the web. A bit cumbersome for whole folders but doable.

Still can't believe you sick fucks listen to MIDI, what's wrong with you? The people who write midi don't even do that.

Not only do I listen to them, I write music in that format and I collect sound modules and keyboards.

>I write music in that format
nigger what? it's hardly a format, no one would say 'yes I write music for grand staff' because it sounds so silly and redundant. What you're doing when you listen to MIDI is effectively listening to a player piano for pleasure, which would unironically be far more interesting than listening to midi or collecting keyboard controllers.

do you maniacs even do anything fun with the midi? Like play it with your own software instruments/make your own patches?

I can, sure. I often import them into the DAW I use and play around with patches if I feel so inclined. Just listening in VLC right now though, it's got a half-way decent softsynth built in.

Well alright anon, I can respect that since it's how I taught myself patch design/sound design and how to mix larger ensembles, but I just can't get over the functional nature of midi enough to get down with enjoying it in and of itself.

I'm a writer and I couldn't do it without MIDI —I mean if you're doing anything that's not just straight audio recording in current year, it's just MIDI underneath. I love the simplicity of the format, it's remarkable that it was so-well designed in the 80s that it's still being used virtually unchanged today.

I take it back, VLC's MIDI playback is fucking trash. Need to find a better solution for bog-standard MIDI playback.

Right but writing MIDI to me is a purely functional aspect of modern recording, hell, I tend to bounce it to audio once I have the software instrument set up. It's strange to me that someone would listen to just the MIDI for pleasure, I suppose.

*shrug*

All I can say is that they contain a lot of SC-88-specific sysex commands.

I got the same problem actually when I tried to check if the download works on Chrome. Worked fine on Safari. Maybe Chrome thinks that .mid files are some sort of executables? I don't know. There's also one .doc file.

>>6512069
You can actually find the contents in the Chip player link I posted above. The disks 1 to 6 contain .mid files from the following games, respectively: Snatcher and Gradius 2, Salamander and Twinbee Yahoo!, Policenauts, Tokimeki Memorial, Salamander 2, Dracula X.

Well midi can be quite easily converted into music notation and then you can play songs with an actual instrument. Other parts can be converted to backing tracks if I feel like I might record myself playing something. Also sometimes just fooling around is nice too, like >>6511887 wrote

For me it's the OPL3 with the default Windows sound set. Yes it sounds like shit compared to just about any sampler/soundfont but it's what I grew up on and has that unmistakable retro sound.
