I'm sure it was just a mock-up video, no actual gameplay or demo, purely visual.
But I'm sure it was these exact assets, or if not exact then very close.

I'll surely try this game when it cames out, but I still think the og AK in MW is underrated as fuck. The soundtrack, gameplay variety and the actual fun gimmick of the boss battles (which got old fast though) is pretty great, it's not fair to compare with a platformer like SMB which is also great and more influential, but it's really different from Alex's game

I never found Alex Kidd that appealing, but I'm happy for you guys.

Agreed, Miracle World owns. SMB was a revolutionary tech demo and deserves its place, but it's self-contained. Alex Kidd was something that would be permanently in your console forever; you weren't meant to beat it initially, you were meant to come back to it and slowly get the knack and uncover its secrets. It's that kind of journey and it feels like it.
Going from inching through the levels and not knowing what to buy, to being able to speedrun it one-handed was a really memorable and rewarding process (and I didn't get the console until I was a college student).

Pretty confident they'll fuck it up, though. It looks exactly like a game someone would post on TigSource where indie hacks whave never not missed the point of anything are cultivated.

As a lot of people is saying here, I don't know how to feel about SEGA outsourcing his classic characters to other developers, especially western ones who usually miss the point of the originals. We like SEGA because is a japanese developer, wih everything that comes with it: artsyles, music, sense of humor, etc. We don't need anybody else to continue with their "legacy", because it never works well and loses half of the appeal in the western adaptations.

We shouldn't have had to wait until Sonic Mania to get a good Sonic game officially released; tons of fan games could have come out in the meantime. Same goes with Nintendo; we could have had all the old Disk System games that never came out as their own line of remakes. He's right, though. DotEmu is a dilation station. Their Wonder Boy was saved only by the gameplay that they (thankfully) lazily left unchanged, SoR4 is shit to everyone except consoomers, and Sonic Mania is acceptable but underwhelming and also has moments of soiness permeating it. Despite its cringe story, Freedom Planet was the real and fun evolution of the series and was an actual 9/10 instead of a 6.5-10 "well, its Sonic, so buy it nerds". Even the previous romhack project "Sonic Mega Mix" was more fun than all-flash Mania is.
