The only complaints I can make about this game are in comparison to F-Zero GX. Seriously, I thought this was the best 'pure' racing title before playing its sequel. Now I just don't like the controls as much, though partially this is because of the N64 controller.

I love fzero X but my friends talk shit about it and don't want to play it because it's very unforgiving to less experienced players; if they fall off right at the start they're fucked and they just have to sit there and watch you finish the race. really though they should just stop being casuals and stay on the track.

my biggest complaint is that the music is too good.
it makes gx sound like dance music shit

That fucking Expansion Kit.

Its existence taunts me so.

Most maps are kind of boring.

Doesn't give as good a sense of speed as GX, just kind of feels like a regular racing title.

Learning curve is balls once you start playing on expert difficulty.

8/10 not the best F-Zero, but still a great game.

Well I feel it is the best F-Zero game. I get a greater sense of speed with it, and expert has become the norm for me, it is master difficulty that is tricky. What learning curve? You should be familiar with the tracks through playing on novice and standard. I never played GX but based on gameplay vids it looks much slower and clunkier, and I dislike the aesthetics. The tracks in F-Zero X really do feel like they are of strange and distant worlds with a surreal and futuristic element to them. It also feels more arcade-like and I love the soundtrack, it matches the speed and makes you feel amazing when you can pull off tricks and tight turns. I also love the comic book style of the characters.

I beat Master Joker with The Skull. His great boost really helped. Still, I was really disappointed with the new title screen you get for beating all cups on Master. The all Expert title was cooler.

On Master I beat Jack with Zoda, Queen with Baba, King with Leon, and as stated before, Joker with Skull. The best advice I can really give is always kill your rivals if you can. And hitting the boost panels are way more important on master. Lastly, never let yourself slide. If you need to make a sharp turn, use the side attack.

On expert I always smacked the rivals right at the beginning. but only when I had better acceleration than them.

you can do some serious change in the final rankings that way although it almost seems unfair.

The acceleration I think is rigged to an extent. Once when I absolutely needed to kill my rival, I fucked up and restarted, giving myself max acceleration. He still gained the same amount of distance at the beginning.

Speaking of that, I'd recommend putting your settings at around 75% max speed.

Every now and then I will erase all my progress only to be able to unlock everything as fast as possible. It's such a damn fun game. I barely used anybody other than Octoman though, once I unlocked the fucker I never even gave a crap about anybody else.

The only thing I never really like was halfpipes and cylinders, I never found a way to go fast on those fucking things.
