>Released in Japanese arcades only 6 days after Super Mario Bros. was released on Famicom
In another universe, this is the most influential game

FUCK NINTENDO AND FUCK SUPER MARIO

It's still plenty influential. Dark Souls and its legion of clones probably wouldn't exist if GnG didn't come along.

Even if Super Mario Bros. was released two years after Ghosts 'n Goblins, it would still be more influential. Ghosts 'n Goblins is as niche and a casual filter as a platformer can be, even taking into account how different Mario felt compared to previous games in the genre at the time.

But this series DID provide a major influence for future platformers! The 2nd game, Ghouls 'n Ghosts was the 1st platfomer to feature slops and physics associated with them in its design!

Xanadu came out for the PC88 a month later and combined platforming with action RPGs.

Where did you hear that?
Xanadu Scenario 2 featured slopes in 1986.

Could you slide down the slopes and were there enemies falling down the slopes?

What would be the point of slopes if you aren't forced to slide down?
That would be like spikes that don't cause damage if you fall on them.

Terrain variety, most slopes in games are like that

Imagine walking into your arcade one weekend to find brand new Vs SMB and GnG machines sitting side by side. What a time to be alive.

There's something about these first generation Capcom boxart style that's so majestic. While more people are familiar with the second generation NES boxarts due to Megaman 2, I feel like this particular style is underrated.

Those were indeed the best. It was a better time.
Mega Man-just that existed.
Commando, nearly everyone had that one.
Section Z was not quiet as popular, but anyone cool had it.
1942 also looked great with it.

>> No.6508671

it'd be influential if anyone could have gotten past the first damn stage i'd imagine
not to shit on the game it's not bad
