I played Super Castlevania IV and had almost two hours of fun, and one hour of frustration. What does /vr/ think of Super Castlevania IV?

Castlevania 3 is my favorite by 4 had all of its difficulty put into one fight

It's a good game, and the score is awesome.

It's my favorite casltevania although I know some people don't like it because the multidirectional whip makes the game easier than other CVs, but fuck it, I love swinging that whip.
Also yeah the OST is incredible (I actually bought the Dracula Best 2 CD which includes the SCVIV OST, I just had to own the thing as it's one of my favorite vidya osts ever), and the team that developed it (and other Konami games, such as Axelay) later went on to form Treasure.

Damn good game with one of the best soundtracks on the SNES. Little easier than the rest of the Classicvanias, but its a game that's just plain fun to play.

>> No.649906

Good game, but I prefer Castlevania Chronicles.

>> No.649907

Great game, Rondo is still better.

>> No.649926

I loved it, but thought it was a little too easy.

>> No.649942

it has a damn good soundtrack, we can all agree on that.

>> No.650000

Good game not my favorite Castlevania but it's high up there.

>> No.650052

It's okay I guess.
I prefer Rondo of Blood, Bloodlines, III, The Adventure ReBirth, and the original though.

>> No.650074

I liked it. I wish it was longer, though.

I'm still trying to find Super Castlevania 1-3

hurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

While I'm sure this post won't win me any a whole lot of friends here...

It's overrated as fuck.

Yeah, I said it.

It's got jack shit on Castlevania III other than graphics and sound quality (which it damn well better, being a SNES game vs a NES one).

I also found Castlevania 4 overrated.

No, I agree with this completely.

It's a good game, but I don't think it's all that great when compared to other games in the series.

It doesn't really bring anything new to the series, and the level design really seems subpar compared to previous games. Seems like they wanted to take advantage of the new hardware, so they made everything bigger, and more centered on the screen which meant they had less room on the screen for platform placement, and room for you to see things before they were in your face, so it's all much simpler.

I'd say its main strength is that it's so much easier than other games in the classic series, so it's a good starting point for people to get into the series who might be put off by the relative difficulty of the other games in the series.

Bloodlines, and Rondo of Blood feel more like the true sequels to Castlevania III than Super does to me.

One of my favourite game on the snes and overall. Level design, gameplay, music, atmosphere, boss, everything is god tier in this game.

A masterpiece of its time

>> No.650996

It's good but Bloodlines is better.

>> No.651005

One of the best platformers ever made.

Fantastic until you reach the Frankenstein level.
Then the rage sets in...

For those of you who think it was easy..

Do you also consider the "2nd quest" to be too easy? I'm finding it a pretty good challenge, although maybe not as difficult as Castlevania 3.

The level design is the most novel thing about IV. The obstacles and style of platforming were substantially different from level to level and kept the game interesting despite the tepid challenge. III was admittedly about on the same level, but the only times they attempted anything genuinely creative they'd overshoot and end up with stupid shit like "stand here and jump back and forth while wait for blocks to fall out of the sky for five minutes".

I don't know how much better Rondo of Blood is, but I've played through Dracula X and nearly all of the levels are pretty much flat, horizontal gauntlets of the same large enemies over and over. Honestly I think that's the worst in the classic series.
