Wonderful game. I spent so much time examining every nook and cranny available to it. Predates GTA 3 by a long shot and so many good ideas. A blast to play.

One of the former devs developed a sequel to School Daze (An old Spectrum game) but faded into obscurity afterwards. Tried for ages to get the fucker working on my computer (It was made in Blitz Basic).

Yeah Yoshi's Island is the best Yoshi game, but Yoshi's Story gets so much unfair shit just for not being like YI. It's meant to be a different kind of game... we had a thread about it some weeks ago, it was good... many of us agreed the game is actually pretty good, but you must play the trial mode and unlock all 24 or so levels in order to actually be able to judge the game.
Playing the story mode (which only serves as a kind of "choose your own adventure" with only 6 levels in total... 6 levels, out of 24! which you unlock by playing the story mode).
And also the game has a lot more exploration and collectathon nature, much more prominent than in YI.

I just played this recently for the first time and I have some questions about S&K played with S3

Do I need to get all 7 emeralds before I get to Mushroom Hill in order to get all the super emeralds?
Is there any real difference between super sonic/knuckles and "ultra" sonic or whatever (7 emeralds vs 14)?

I don't believe so, but I might be wrong.

>Is there any real difference between super sonic/knuckles and "ultra" sonic or whatever (7 emeralds vs 14)?
Yes.

On top of invincibility, greater speed, and greater jump height, Hyper Sonic can do a second jump like any of the elemental shields at any time.
Jump+up for thunder shield double jump.
Jump+left/right for fire shield dash thing.
Jump+down for bubble shield bounce.
Any time you do this, the screen flashes and all enemies on screen are killed.
Also, if I remember correctly, Super Sonic can drown and Hyper Sonic cannot.

Hyper Knuckles is pretty much regular old Super Knuckles except if you glide into a wall at a high enough speed, it will kill all onscreen enemies.
Also, same deal about breathing underwater as Super/Hyper Sonic, I believe.

Tails gets a super form with the Super Emeralds. He's invincible, moves faster (I think), and has four flickies that fly around him and automatically home in on and attack enemies.

Note that once you start going for Super Emeralds, you won't be able to change into your Super form since you give up the Chaos Emeralds.

Shit, I love Urban Chaos. It gets retardedly hard towards the end when those nearly unstoppable Agent Smith guys show up. I remember fighting one across half the city, constantly staying out of his range, because the machine guns they carry can shred you to a pulp in a nanosecond. I never beat it. :( I'm thinking of picking up the DC version and giving it one more shot.

Anyway, here's mine. One of the top 5 beat'em ups I've ever played, and I played a lot. In America, this game is for some reason considered to be the black sheep of the series. I've no idea who started this nonsense, but it's complete bullshit. The only game in the franchise that's arguably better than GA3 is The Revenge of Death Adder.

Kirby 64 was the first game I ever played, but..
Amazing Mirror blew my fucking mind

Fireworks was my favorite as well. Just a big ol' fuck you to everything around you without any major commitment to the attack. I liked double needle as well.

Yes how dare majora's mask break the zelda formula and do something new and exciting for a change

Majora's Mask I think is starting to become the overrated one. It's similar to the Megaman 2/3 case, with the sequel getting a free pass.

This post reminded me of a girl I tried to date a few years ago that was enthralled with the Zelda series.

But then claimed the handheld games were just spinoffs and wouldn't touch Zelda II because it 'wasn't a real Zelda game'.

I don't have the best taste in women.

Sorry to hear man. My wife loves the handheld Zeldas. She sees the appeal in the console ones, but doesn't have time to strap herself to a console for 20 hours... apparently.

Overhyped maybe. Majora's Mask is still one of the most imaginative and daring little games Nintendo has ever put forth. For a company that tends to be so sanitized, doing that with one of its prime properties was really surprising.

But of course once you get people saying "This game is good, for X and Y reasons," you get a bunch of shallow folk going "YEAH WHAT THEY SAID I WANNA BE COOL TOO."

Again, the lack of articulation and analytic capacity among the gaming fandom is a problem.

The control are good.

But the camera can be a pain, especially in combat.

I'd say it was a really big improvement in different areas from Ocarina of Time. Clock Town feels like a small town full of people who move around and have lives of their own. True, only the inn really has anything major going on in it, but the rest of the game moves to schedule and it makes the world feel more impressive and complete. Hyrule Castle Town's inhabitants were mostly faceless.

Plus I personally really liked the touch of the music in Clock Town speeding up each day.

Pretty ambitious for the time, even it was mostly made from scraps of the previous game.
