6493595 No.6493595 [Reply] [Original]

I'm in the mood for horror titles and wonder if anyone has any recommendations. They can't be obvious horror recommendations like Silent Hill 1, Resident Evil 1 to CV, or Night Trap. It has to be more obscure, like Ugetsu Kitan(PS1 horror click adventure), while not being goofy horror(Decap attack, Splatter house)
Also asking if there's any good ones on these systems:
>SNES(Already know Clock Tower before anyone says it)
>Genesis
>Sega CD
>PC-Engine
>PS1
>NES
Also if you know any Japan only horror, do recommend them since the language barrier isn't a problem for me.

You managed to get 0/3, and didn't include any of the consoles that the OP specified. Nice job!

It's pretty decent as a surreal horror click adventure. There's a few good twists and the beginning area of encountering certain youkai should bring you enough interest into continuing the game.
Also the ending is pretty fucking scary if you're playing on legit PS1 hardware. Won't say what happens, but you'll be freaked out for a hour or so.

It's not strictly a horror game, but Kowloon's Gate is an adventure game thick in a strange, unsettling atmosphere. Who knew a giant residential/commercial block so compressed together it blocked the sun out would make for a great adventure game locale.

What a fucking retard you are. The PS2 isn't a fucking retro system. What, you think just because it released 20 years ago that makes it retro? You're fucking wrong bucko.
As we all know retro games can't be 3D. Except for 5th gen.
And on that point, only 5th gen and below are considered retro.
Well, except for the 6th gen Dreamcast.
But the most important reason it's not retro is this:
Retardation.
So just shut the fuck anon and start listing REAL retro games.

>> No.6494182

You just have to be clever and post ps2 games amidst ps1 and dreamcast games and no one will notice or care.

By that logic the NES wouldn't have been considered retro in 2004, you retarded boomer. Get back to the nursing home.

This. We absolutely need discussion of retro classics like Gears of War and Last of Us on /vr/. They fit like a glove.

>> No.6494920

>>6494879
>By that logic

But that's YOUR logic, and it's irrelevant to the rules of this board. /vr/ doesn't define 'retro' as 'X number of years ago', but with a specific, stationary cut-off point which does not change. Go back to r/retrogames if you don't like it.

>/vr/ doesn't define 'retro' as 'X number of years ago', but with a specific, stationary cut-off point which does not change.

That's the dumbest shit I've heard all week.
So if that's the case, why is the board even called R E T R O games? Why not just name it "Gen X games", or something like that?

>> No.6494947

>>6494945
>Why not just name it "Gen X games"

>Those are not even from the 6th gen, boomer schizo.
But they will be 20 years old eventually thus according to your logic they are retro and thus can be discussed on /vr/.

Should cinematic garbage from 7th and 8th gen be considered retro eventually even though they do not fit in with actual retro games whatsoever? Or do you believe in a stationary cut off point despite just calling it "the dumbest shit I've heard all week"?

>> No.6494989

>>6494949
he's right tho

you can't even plug a 6th gen game into a new hdtv natively anymore, new tvs don't have analog inputs and are so far removed from what games are today that they can unquestionably be accurately defined as "retro."

aging isn't fun but 6th gen consoles are retro everywhere except /vr/

Well, if you want to keep discussing again and again the same ol' 5 or so games that haven't been obliterated by the passage of time found in each individual console, then... that's your choice I suppose.
>>6494949
Yeah? Technology doesn't stop evolving dude. In a couple of years people are gonna look back at those gens the same way we look back now at the 6th gen and older ones. It has literally always been like that, for everything.

You can't plug a casette tape into a modern radio anymore either. Does that mean music from the early '90s like Snoop Dogg's 'Doggystyle' should be considered 'classical music'?

If 6th gen consoles are retro everywhere else then you can go literally anywhere else to discuss them except for here. Why not go elsewhere?

CD's have been around since the 80's, just because something was on tape doesn't mean it was old. DVD is still supported to this day, though I have no idea why when bluray players and HDTV's are cheap enough for anyone in the first world to afford at this point. So that argument is invalid.

Also, "classical music" is it's own genre and does receive new content from new composers. Did you think that symphonies just played old shit and that no one would ever try to make new music in the genre? Also older music in genres gets the classic label, like classic rock and I have seen songs from the 90s show up occasionally in those playlists because time moves forward. So again, this part of your argument is invalid.

And you should know full well that every other site sucks shit because there is post accountability and normies...why would anyone want that? I've been advocating for a new video game board just for 6th and 7th gen anyway, since /v/ just wants to discuss new shit and we have 9th gen on the horizon. That way this board can stay the way it is and all the people that desire 6th gen discussion can have it as well.

Horror seems to be one of those genres where finding a good game is really tough! I honestly don't think I have played a decent one since Silent Hill and RE2 (unless you count the Silent Hill Wii title, which is definitely not /vr/). So there's some interesting stuff here to go through.
