This tip doesn't appear to be that helpful because not only do you have to wait for the lightning to strike, but the lightning also has to coincidentally hit the boss. Which in the footage, you can see rarely happens. Cool little thing to find though.

as for the dagger stuff, in the Simon only speedrun just walk right up into his face, there is a lightning strike right at the start so they get one, and then fight him like normal

actually i had a retard moment, you only have simon up until that point, beating the Cyclops unlocks Syfa. I can't remember which run they use it on. Possibly Simon only. I only ever did Syfa runs and use a triple cross.
