Still, the system was never really branded as PSX, it's just a codename/bios thing. Nobody is still calling the Dreamcast "Katana" or N64 the NU64.

Yes, but you only need to call it the PS1 in regards to the rest of the series. Since this is /vr/ and the other consoles in the series aren't allowed, we can use PSX without anyone being confused as to what is being talked about. Many of us have never stopped calling it the PSX. The PSX was branded as the PlayStation. The only people obsessed with it being the "Playstation One" is /v/, and they don't count here.

Oh boy do i like my PSX or playstation X it just sounds so badass. Another favorite console of mine is the GCN otherwise known as the Gamecube Nintendo. >The PSX was branded as the PlayStation
I mean, "PSX" was nowhere to be seen on the original console's packaging, not even the very first fat models.
"PSX" only remained in magazines... in the same way many magazines kept calling the N64 "Ultra" for years, but eventually people realized Ultra was just the proto/codename and not the official name, and stopped using it. It's a bit weird that so many people keep using PSX, especially when you can just type PS, which is the actual official abbreviation.

You know, it's genuinely starting to worry me that this is something that bothers the younger generations so much. When I was a kid and the playstation was new, we all called it the "psx". It was quicker than saying/writing p-l-a-y- s-t-a-t-i-o-n. It was just an abbreviation, like "xmas" instead of "Christmas" or "XOXO" in place of your name.
Why do europeans struggle with this concept?

Because X sounds cool. What does the X mean in Xbox? Same marketing logic.

>Sony's North American division, known as Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA),[28] originally planned to market the new console under the alternative branding "PSX" following the negative feedback regarding "PlayStation" in focus group studies. Early advertising prior to the console's launch in North America referenced PSX, but the term was scrapped before launch.[29][30]

Almost all gaming magazines of the time used it as an acronym until it officially came out. See >>6488320

Yeah but the X in Xbox, which comes from DirectX by the way, is the name of the console. PSX isn't the name of the console, it's an abbreviation where an extra letter is not present in the final name.
Who cares if it's a planned name, it's weird to call the PlayStation the PSX when PS would have been fine and doesn't really stand for much. I don't care that magazines and shit used it, it's a dumb name in any case

Again, that's not the claim. Who denies that it was referred to as the PSX in the 90s? The claim is that "PSX" has never been an official term for the system. Everyone called the N64 the "64" in the 90s, but no one claims that was the official term for it.

>>6488834
PSX and PS1 are both abreviations of the official name, one used in the system's time, the other when the successors came out. Even Sony uses PsOne in their classics line, not PS1. PS1 is not anymore official than PSX, the official name is PlayStation (and to an extent, PsOne).
By that logic we can't use GBA, GBC, C64, SMS, SNES or Atari VCS because those weren't the official names.
Your gripe with this is textbook asperger's syndrome.
