How does /vr/ feel about this guy?

I love this game, one of the best SNES platformers.

>> No.647950

Great game, but a lack of saving / password system made it a bigger pain than it needed to be.

I actually played this piece of shit, because my female friend and gaming buddy owns it.

FUCK THIS GAME MAN, IT'S BROKEN GAMEPLAY, HORRIBLE DISMEMBERED BODY FEATURE, AND I CAN'T REMEMBER THE OTHER HORRID STUFF BUT STILL.

>> No.647962

My friend owned it. Never played it myself, but i heard it's not actually all that great. Music i heard was top though.

>> No.647963

Plok is a bad, bad game with some excellent music.

Really? I liked it a lot. Varied levels. Challenging as hell without being unfair, great controls, and nice graphics.

>>647950

This is real fucking true though. Not only no saves/passwords, but continues are fucking hard to come by and lives are kinda scarce. Much better game with savestates

>> No.648001

You guys have to realize everyone in /vr/ is from /v/, and /v/ hates video games. I've never played this, about to give it a go, and will be back with my opinion no one will care about.

>> No.648009

One of the better games Tim Follin worked on.
Not a masterpiece by any chance though, but highly playable, if difficult.
In any case

I never go to /v/. I don't even own a 7th gen console, or a gaming PC.

>> No.648018

My Dad bought this on release but I never really got into it. I will agree on the great music and graphics though.

Maybe I should give it another go.

Use savestates or Game Genie codes for infinite continues / and or lives.

You will need this. Unless you like the type of challenge that is playing everything from the god damned beginning.

K so a couple things.

1. I'm retarded, pic related
2. The second tutorial actually was useful
3. What the fuck is this game.

Here's what I gather:

I'm some kind of humanoid creature with no arms, that is until I grab limbs off of magically floating coat-hangers. Then I shoot them at hornet nests to collect them, along with a myriad of other unfitting objects, in a strikingly cliche, brightly-colored platforming environment (see: RKA, Ristar, etc.). I dodge lame, generic enemies that took 5 minutes to program/create, until I get my space-suit, which has guns.

Am I close?

>> No.648265

Played a few levels. This is a pretty good game. Other than the limbs thing, it's a pretty generic side-scrolling platformer, but it's still pretty fun.

I remember this game getting having a pretty big presence in gaming mags. As with anything big in shiny in front of a young kid I immediately wanted to play it.

Finally tried it many years later and it looks like I wasn't missing out on much.

I just don't think Plok is that fun. it's exactly the type of game I should like too, IDK game just bores me.

>> No.648465

>>648460

It's one of those games that feels like it was designed by committee somehow. Has some fairly original ideas, but still somehow manages to be painfully generic.

>> No.648545

I like Plok. That is likely just the nostalgia talking, but the music is undeniably some of Follins' finest.

God damn was this game difficult though.

It's an UK thing I feel.
With many games and other media products from there of the 80s and 90s specifically I often get the sense of not being made by people with a passion for them, but rather a randomly put together group being told what to hastily make by someone that has no idea how these things work, but wants that "Sonic and Mario Bros." money.
Plok! as a character for instance looks like the first sketch the artist made without even knowing what they were going to make but chosen right away because it was good enough. The name Plok! was probably just something that stuck during a local pub brainstorming session because it was funny because it kind of sounds like "Fuck" and all the other name ideas were terrible.

I thought it was mediocre, overall.
It had a cool concept and some god tier music, but the level design was bland and the platforming was very standard.
The whole limb throwing gimmick should have been more integrated into the design the way throwing your head or stretching your arms was in Dynamite Headdy and Ristar.
It's also often challenging in very unfair ways, somewhat lengthy, and gives you no way to continue where you left off, which is disappointing.
