There have to be beautiful autists that have obsessively complete music collections of game soundtracks across every console and computer, with proper tagging & artwork...

Right?

Yet there's nothing online of these kinds of organized collections/packs. Scattershot game soundtracks with questionable bitrates and ID3 tagging is the norm for anything you'll try to find with google, or on archive.org & zophar.net

Private trackers have almost nothing as well.

The fuck?

My point is that everyone has done massive amounts of work to preserve the roms of these games, and consequentially it tends to be pretty trivial to find complete packs of the roms/dumps/etc.

But now there's a glaring problem in that there's nothing that seems to have been done in terms of preserving the music from from these games and making it available in the same kind of way. It's a shitshow. Why the fuck is YouTube the best place to find all of this? It's a terrible method of archiving and media preservation.

You know what preserves a game's music? The game itself.

Agreed, but I think the priority for game preservation goes:

1. The game data itself & the ability to use this data to play the game
2. Artwork with the game
3. Music
4. Promotional material & misc. art
5. Misc. audio/sfx/etc.
6. Everything else

I think #1 has been done to death over the past decade, and we've reached a point where #2 and below is a shame to game preservation.

This is very much in line with what I was thinking of but still not ideal imo. Is there a torrent archive of the site/directory anywhere?

Ah but these are the music files from the games themselves...

Is there an archived equivalent but transcoded losslessly to a conventional music container?

Does anyone have good compilations of tracks?

Like a good "Best of PC-98" music pack or something?
