I remember playing Beyond Oasis not too long ago
I made it decently far, but after a while, I just wished I was playing LttP instead.

Ys series is gold

That’s an ARPG. Top down action adventure is different. You don’t level up your character in adventure games and there’s not as strong of an emphasis on plot line.

Like "geese" without the "g". Watch the English intro for Ys Book I&II for TGCD for proof of this.

Explain text adventures, point & click adventures, survival horror adventures, and most of the weeb ADV games. Yes, adventure games have a strong emphasis on plot, even when they didn't have cutscenes they were about where to go, what to do to solve some puzzle, what choices to make, to achieve the objective of some story. Adventure you had to follow the linear plot of the game even if it was more abstract, arcade like: get sword/arrow, kill/evade dragons/ducks and bats, use keys to progress, navigate a maze using a bridge thing that let you walk through walls, all to get the holy grail and take it back to the castle. Zelda 3 is just as much an extension of that as any other adventure game. You could argue MUDs prove its RPG roots, but RPG is clearly a combination genre between dice rolls and stat progression mechanics from tabletop RPGs (their namesake) and what is now just adventure gameplay. Adventure games then just subtract the former and in the case of action adventures, substitute with action systems where the character's skill is equal to the player's skill. You then get two types of RPG genres if you want to be pedantic, but since we're talking real established genre labels, OP was using the right genre here. Only Zelda 2 is an action RPG, the rest are action adventures.

Hello OP, for me is aLttP and Final Fantasy adventure. Except for the Zelda franchise, I can't think of many arpg/adventure games that plays well for some reason. Seems like all the talent went to make jrpgs.
