where do i find a beginners guide for this games combat as of right now i get into a fight and have absolutely no idea what is going on

You press C and watch shit break lose.
Sometimes things go horribly wrong and you reload. There are certain weapons you shouldn't give to your companions because they blog up everything.

Pretty much >>6471857 it is chaos. You can specify "attack strongest", "attack weakest", per non-Avatar character. I tend to set the characters I want to gain exp for training to attacking and all others to run away. Do consider where combat occurs when you unleash chaos with "C", as your companions will path into hazards for no reason (like stepping onto caltrops or the poisonous areas of swamps) even when running away. I do not recommend arrows/bolts/ranged attacks as there can be friendly fire.

Fortunately, I don't think the games emphasizes combat as much as interactions so it is not a big concern.
