I missed out on all the retro mini consoles that came out a few years ago, but now I feel like it would be nice to own one of more of them as collector's items. Should I try to get my hands on them, and if so, which one would you recommend getting?

They're fine for retards like that one nigger in that other thread floating around because he's an idiot. However, most people who regularly play retro games are better off getting a micro PC and turning it into a plug-and-play emulation station. It's also a good deal for gen alpha kiddies whom are far, far too young to ever remember a time when games didn't load through several boot screens before you could play.

Nearly all of them suffer from sound delay issues.
NES and SNES Classic have a noisy output that shouldn't exist over HDMI
Genesis mini has shit sound emulation, with over-driven percussion and now low pass filter
Everything on the PS Classic.
Can't say about the Turbo mini other than the Jap games like Snatcher are untranslated.

Okay, /vr/ recommend me a good (preferably cheap) controller for retro games, one that's good for 16 bit games mainly. Which one do you use? Also, këkpill me on PC Engine emulation please. At least the games that don't require ISOs must be easy to emulate, or is it hard or unstable like N64 and PSX were? For a controller I use a Logitech F310. Lasted me a long time and it's great for retro games, though I think a lot of anons will say to just use an Xbox or PS4 controller if you have one lying around.
Also when it comes to PC Engine emulation, Mednafen has a very accurate and fast core that runs every game flawlessly. It also runs PCE-CD games as well if you just dump a BIOS file in the needed folder.

>I think a lot of anons will say to just use an Xbox or PS4 controller if you have one lying around
lol nope, I am aware they can be used on PC but I have none of those. The one you recommended looks good, just like a PS2 one. I'll look up prices, thanks.

>mednafen
I remember the one time I used that emulator (for Virtual Boy Wario) it was a fucking nightmare to set up for me. So many weird hoops to go through. I ended up having to drag myself here begging for help lmao. That was just the VB emulation, right? For other systems it works just like Snex9x, FCEultra, Gens, or whatever, just load the rom and play.

Right?

>>6465291
Just the scalpers? I mean if they were like, 40 bucks, had two controllers, and were not distributed by Konami I might have gotten one but 100 is a fucking ludicrous sum to engorge their Pachinko and cheap port fund.

If you mean that you couldn't get the 3D scaling and color working properly, you can easily set it up with either the frontend Mednaffe or use the Retroarch version of it to easily change the color to black and white with no anaglyph 3D nonsense.
But yeah especially for the PC Engine core you just drag that rom onto Mednafen and it'll start up. For PCE-CD you drag the cue file.

Its cheaper to buy a pi and get an NES Mini Case for it. Thats what I did. Plus it can play everything else. Even then the novelty of having one of those wears off very quickly. Trust me, its better to just buy the original hardware and getting an everdrive if you have all these roms.

I've stopped using retroarch and started using my softmodded wii for emulation with my CRT. The Wii is one of the best emulator machines I've found, since with most Emulators they give you the option of using the double strike mode. Only thing I dont like is that emulation for the n64 outside of VC sucks. I plan on getting the original console and an everdrive for that. (And yes Im gonna get all the controller paks and expansion pak because god fucking damn some games cant run right without em)

Have a co-worker that bought one for himself during Black Friday (he was lucky to find one). He said he loved going back to Ghost and Goblins and Tecmo Bowl. To him it plays perfectly.

It's literally for people with 0 knowledge of emulation. Who doesn't understand it and think it's too complicated. The mother who needs to ask their child basic computer questions. It's not even to play the games honestly. At least for a while. It's really there to play for a day or two to get a nice bit of nostalgia hit and after a few weeks just have it on the shelf for fond memories.

It's shit but because there's cheaper better ways to play those games and have a larger collection on games that just on the system. But as I said it's not really made for that it's made for the 40+ year old who dropped gaming when 3D became a thing (yes that happened) and saw a small cute NES/SNES and wanted a hit of nostalgia and that's really it.

i could try to defend them, but it honestly just comes down to pic related

if you want to easily emulate the best games for the SNES on an official system it is perfect.

modding it is also super easy, so you could easily play 21 great games + ~30 gamea of your choosing which you can swap out on occasion

is it better to get the original hardware? Idk, probably but its much more time consuming

is it better to use your PC to emulate?
Idk, probably but you lose the portability

is it better to build your own with a rasberry pi?
idk, probably but it is much more time consuming and never as nice looking and feeling as official hardware

with all that said, spending over $100 for it is not worth it
