I beat it many moons ago. Honestly, I can't remember how. The game was highly touted by the press at the time. Or at least I thought they did. Seemed like an important game that faded into the ether.

they did iirc. i played it because i was craving more of the same after having played another world and heard flashback was similar. the artwork and stronger adventure game mechanics totally won me over in the end.

though another world is maybe the best game i've ever played in terms of making you feel alone and uncomfortable in a strange environment, the majority of the interactions were circumstantial/scripted so you ended up basically just having to learn what to do. flashback felt a lot more organic to me, exploring the screens and figuring out your strategy made it a lot more tense and engaging, imo

how do the save codes in another world work?

are they purely saving my position and why do they have saves where I went down into the cave which seems like a dead end compared to going up past the waterfall

this is the "dead end" but I get save states in here.. and not up top

There is not a save for each screen. They are pretty much checkpoint.

It could also mean that you haven't done everything in the cave even if you can pass the water fall.

It still spooked the hell out of me as a kid. Dem graphics was awful but it was fun as hell.

Now here me out... I know this game was chock full of Nazis and zombies and all that happy horeshit, but what about when all of them were dead? And it was just you... and that creepy music... and the purple floors and blocks... And you're all alone, and stuck, and can't find your way out *shudders*. So many childhood memories of being stuck and scared before discovering cheats and saying fuck it.
