I played Fallout 1 and 2 in 1997 1998

I played Baldur's Gate 1, 2, and Seige of Dragonspear, and Planescape last month and my god, i regret not playing those back in the old days. Best games ever

Fallout is good, but its nothing compared to Baldur's Gate 2

I couldn't get into BG2. Always quit after doing a couple of quests in the first city, always just lost interest and steam

Yes, do this. Spiderweb games are way underrated

The first Baldur's Gate will always hold that spot in my heart, I think, even if I've played plenty of better games since. It was the first game I played besides the old Quest for Glory games that made me feel a genuine sense of being a nobody and embarking on a grand adventure.

While I do think Fallout 2 is objectively a better game in almost every way, I still think I prefer Fallout 1. It just feels like a smaller, tighter compact experience that shows off everything I love about Fallout. Not saying Fallout 2 had too much, it had just enough, but I just felt 1 flowed way better, especially near the start

>> No.6456235

>>6456209
nah, I agree. I like 1 far more than 2. It's a better experience and is better put together

Gold Box games hands down, they're amazing

FO2 suffered from having too much focus on "haha isn't this funny" and tried too hard to turn this standard post-apocalyptic setting into something New and Fresh. FO1 holds up a lot better and feels almost timeless, apart from a handful of technical hiccups. FO2 just feels like a product of the 90s.

Why specifically Pool of Radiance? The sequels improved on it a lot.

>> No.6456845

>>6456495
I didn't like the sequels nearly as much, Pools of Radiance is just more fun to me. PoR was great and the sequels is just the same thing over and over and over again while not making things better really

I'll admit that I don't really like BG2
I can't really put it to words either, I just completely bounce off it regardless of how I play it. I've probably put a 150 hours into it and never gotten past Chapter 4
I actually liked BG1 and IWD though

>> No.6458107

>>6455412
i prefer how bg1 is more outdoors. 2 has some...but it's too much wandering around the city.

unpopular opinion time

i don't like either expansion for bg1 or bg2. bg1 expansion is just an annoying grind. same with ToB. i don't even like the ending to ToB. i prefer the ending to bg2. i avoid them both when doing a playthrough.

i like arcanum a lot. my favorite is mount and blade with mods but that's not retro. hmm...

knights of the old republic is a favorite.

i got a few hours into albion and really liked what i saw. i'm going to go through that one eventually.

it's the camera that kills this game for me, this along with NWN2
I have no clue what the devs were thinking with "that looks fine"
