According to the rules a videogame is considered /vr/ related if it was released on a retro console, no matter when the game was actually released.
So what is /vr/'s favorite modern retro games?
Pic related, it's Xenocrisis

The premier definition of retro IS something new made in the style of old, "modern retro" is a redudancy. It's like saying "an old elderly man".

The name of this game is based on a spanish game of the same name, same name but in spanish. It's an adventure known for being the first to implement real time clock NPC schedules. I think the dev of the french name version is spanish.

His other games are pretty good too, Curse of Issyos and Matilda Castle. Too bad I got a glitch in CoI that prevented me from using my pad thus from playing and due to how the control configuration works there is no fix.

YES! Though please be aware that retroactive ports ("backports") only count for themselves alone. For example, Halo 1 for PC is retro but Halo 1 for Xbox isn't. This is because the PC version is a port of the non-retro Xbox version (ie, they weren't released at the same time), so the SE port is only retro because it's on SE. Same goes for Cave Story (DC/GEN) but the original Cave Story (Win XP). Same also goes for any other homebrew (etc) of a non-retro game ported to a retro platform. And of course, all remakes and "forwardports" of pre-2000 platform games are retro. Have fun, millenial/zoomerbro!

The dev was probably using the VSP trick for the fast scrolling, otherwise such fast scrolling indeed wouldn't be possible on an C64. Too bad that a few C64's don't like that trick at all and crash.

The VSP scrolling trick of some late C64 games (and of course demos and many current games) allowed much faster scrolling than the hardware devs originally intended that additionally didn't even need much CPU load. It doesn't get any more bare to the metal than using well timed tricks to let the video chip do things it was never designed for. Well, most of these tricks exploited various hardware quirks of the C64 to a point were it had to be timed right to a single cycle to work correctly. In case of the VSP the actual timing variations of various hardware components also could just crash the computer on some devices without additional precautions (in case of crashes using the VSP scrolling trick the DRAM is to blame).
