Saturn thread? Saturn thread.

What are you playing? What’s your preferred controller? Any purchases you are making soon?

>Need to replace the console battery, should I just get a ram cartridge or do some games only save to the console?

No games are able to save directly to the 4-in-1 RAM carts, the memory on those is strictly for backing up save data. You could could one of the official Backup Carts, but there are still a lot of games that can't save directly to them.

>What are you playing?
Nothing. Sold my Saturn and all my games about 5 yrs back for a bunch of money
>What’s your preferred controller?
Depends what I was playing. Model 1 controller for fighting games and model 2 for just about everything else. Only used the 3d controller for NiGHTS and Burning Rangers
>Any purchases you are making soon?
Probably not but I will be picking up a Saturn again someday just for NiGHTS and Sega Rally.

The cart will bypass region checks (and can be modded to bypass copy protection checks) but you'd still need to burn the translated game to a disc.

Definitely look at the Japanese version of Daytona USA: Circuit Edition, it's the best version of the game on Saturn. Cotton 2 or Cotton Boomerang are also great choices, but those games are rare, so it might be better to burn yourself a copy, same with the English version of Magic Knight Rayearth.
The Clockwork Knight games are fun little platformers, wouldn't spend a lot on them, but if you get them cheap it's worth it. It's kind of a like a Sonic & Knuckles situation with them, where the two parts were really meant to be one longer game.
Dynamite Deka/Die Hard Arcade is tons of fun, doesn't really matter which version you go with, so go with the Japanese release if you want to save some money

I mean all the German text in the manual and game is correct and quite good...but what is a Wachenröder. Wachen(pl. guards, to guard), Röder (from roden, lit. to clear/cut a clearing in the woods) ... so a Wachenröder is a person who cuts down guards?!
Whatever, it's a good game.

Please don't shit up the Saturn thread. I know that anon was a shithead, but that doesn't mean you have to be as well.

I've been kinda neglecting my Saturn, mostly because some of the games I want are outside of the range I'd like to pay for old CDs. I've been thinking about modding my 4-in-1, or buying one that's already modded + has a physical switch for the 4mb and 1mb RAM expansion.

Played some Taroumaru earlier this evening - emulated of course. I'm not paying whatever its cost is right now. What is it? Like 500 dollars? Anyway... kind of torn on this one to be honest. The presentation is fantastic, no doubt about it - from the colors to the music, everything is on point. And it's got a very dark vibe to it with lots of demonic possessions and mutations taking place (reminds me of Contra 3 that way). Even the regular enemies deform grotesquely just as they get taken out by your psychic blasts. There is a nice flow to it as well as the levels transition very smoothly into each other.

Thing is, I don't enjoy the gameplay all that much. Its gameplay style is certainly its own and I respect that but that auto lock-on system is just a tad too unreliable for my taste. Rarely have I experienced something as unsatisfying as charging up your psychic shot, then letting go of the attack button to unleash it only to have nothing come out because the auto targeting reticule lost track of the target at the last moment. Being able to turn some of the lower enemies into allies through submission on the other hand is cool. Movement is fine I think. Although the slide and running jump don't seem as useful to me so far. There are just too many enemies in your way most of the time to make good use of them. Maybe I'm still too bad at it and not killing foes quickly enough though. It is a pretty though game and relies on zapping groups of enemies with your charged up shot.

I'll finish this first run tomorrow I guess and then I'll try that other character as well. I wonder if he's got different abilities. But I'm not going to attempt to get very good at it - I don't have to because I didn't pay 500 dollars for this after all.

Despite how it looks, it feels better in the hands than the Dreamcast controller. Decent amount of games support it, like of course there's Nights, but then there's Burning Ranger, Daytona USA Circuit Edition, Panzer Dragoon Zwei, Sonic R, bunch of SEGA AGES titles, as well as Duke 3D, Quake, Croc, Magic Carpet, and Wipeout 2097, if you even care to play the Saturn versions of those particular games.

>how difficult is the game?
Making it through to the end is trivial as the game gives you infinite credits. 1cc'ing it should prove a challenge however - the auto-targeting system screwing you over not playing a small part in that. And it gets pretty spammy. You'll be hammering that attack button like crazy. I'd consinder using a turbo controller if you can since it sounds like you'd be playing on an actual console. Overall it's worth checking out. It's not the best run-n-gun you've ever played but it's very stylish. The talk surrounding it is not solely based on its rarity.

Is Enemy Zero as hard as people make it out to be? I want to play it, but hearing that enemies are invisible does intimidate me. Also is it worth learning Japanese for all the JP Saturn library, especially Real Sound: Kaze no Regret since that likely wont get translated?

>>6454742
You're probably better off paying for one that's modded, IIRC once you mod your 4-in-1 you probably wont be able to use it's memory back-up feature.

>> No.6457935

>>6451027
I'd recommend not getting an action replay at this point, the "modern" carts are all chinese garbage, and you need to modify your system to flash psuedo saturn onto them anyway. If you can find one with a serial port, that'll probably be okay as it's an older better built model, but that's a total crapshoot; I'd suggest either waiting for the satiator (which just went into production) or trying to get a mode. Alternatively, it's very easy to install a modchip, and that will leave you the cartridge slot open for memory carts or a ram cart.
