I still think the Cinemassacre videos (at least the ones with James) have a more "vintage" feel to them, not just because of gimmicks like the video store setting, but the whole format. Anyway, 6th gen was a lot more homogenized, what with the advent of 3D graphic engines, many games looked very similar. On prior gens, games all had their own distinct design, and when games were similar, it was because they were from the same company. On PS2 a lot of devs started using all these homogenized engines that we still see nowadays. Easier work for them, but less personal works for the fans.

The Mega Drive has the better platformer, run-n-gun, beat 'em up, brawler, shmup, racing, strategy and sport libraries. The only thing the SNES beats it at is JRPGs, but even then the Mega Drive offering is hardly paltry. So I don't understand how the SNES can possibly have the better library overall. I don't blame Americans though, most of them know little to nothing about the Mega CD (which has 20 great games of its own), Alien Soldier was never even released there, and Bare Knuckle 3 was butchered so badly it's nearly unplayable, and those are two of the best games on the system.

SNES library is better than Genesis and PS1 at least. Not by far, both of those consoles also have really excellent games. I would say that PS1 has a fuckload of -good- titles while not so many great ones, while the SNES has more great titles, not so many good ones. PS1 is more experimental, SNES is more perfectionist. The Genesis is more of an arcade console and even though it has great titles, there are very few that you could say are worth at least playing once. I think the Genesis Mini was pretty good, but the SNES Mini nailed it in the aspect that you could grab one and without modding it, not having played its library, you almost have all the great titles there.

You see the same thing that happened in cinema once sound was introduced, with film directors and producers leaning towards making more dialogue driven and music based films as opposed to furthering the artistic and aesthetic advancements that the medium had made during the silent era. Except in gaming it was the change from 2D to 3D instead of silent to sound. So few silent films were made once talkies started taking over, as the filmmakers just wanted to do something that was perceived as new and fresh and original. And just like the jump from 4th gen to 5th gen gaming, so few quality 2D platformers (and all 2D games for that matter, see how few 2D JRPGs were on the PS1 compared to 3D) were being made because game developers and audiences were much more interested in superficial advancements like graphics, voice acting, and 3D game design in general. Neither is bad, but it’s a shame that 2D game development basically came to a halting screech as soon as 3D came into play, especially wince 2D design was nearly inarguably at its creative peak

The PS1 and SEGA games ARE in many ways, much more exciting to play mainly because anyone who likes games enough will be willing to try out new gaming experiences to truly explore the potential of the medium.
The fact that so many people limit the games they want to choose based on the notion of it having the "Nintendo" label is sad honestly.
Sticking with only Nintendo games or firmly stating that the SNES or N64 is the best console doesnt imply your a gamer per say:

This is true, but this doesn't just apply to Nintendo fans, there's loyal Sega and Sony fans as well. I even met loyal PC fans who just pretend that console gaming isn't good compared to PC (despite being completely different, especially in retro era).
Real fans of video games will play games on any system, no matter the label or brand.

yeah, it's not using precise enough calculations for the polygon coordinates. That or at such a high res the precision is lost. Happens in a lot of emulated 64 games. It's kind of useful here because you can see how the subdivision is still there as it would be on the PS1. The N64 version runs noticeably worse for this reason, too many polygons. I don't think this is an example of lazy porting however because look at how the PS1 uses those tiled floors to have unique textures. Seems to be just how the game is built.
