it IS a hard game, you need to know the tracks pretty well, manage your boosts and health, AND try to mess up the AI's positions so they don't score that many points in case you're not finishing in 1st place.

God I love this game so much, I want to get gud enough to beat Master mode but I'm so god damn terrible. I bought this game second hand many years ago at a flea market and someone had unlocked the Captain Falcon comic splash screen for the title art but I remember clearing out the data so I could beat the game and earn the satisfaction for myself. Unfortunately I never got good enough and am only stuck on the expert mode title screen.which is still an achievement I suppose, but I've become mildly rusty over the years. I really need to get my hands on a DD with the F-Zero expansion, but I don't see myself owning one of those for many years...

If you want to see an anime that (is rumored to have) inspired F-Zero, check out Neo-Tokyo. It’s a collection of shorts, one of them called The Running Man practically IS F-Zero.

How do you properly drive at high speeds without the machine suddenly losing all of its grip? I can manage GX perfectly well, but X still fucks with me

>> No.6435553

>>6435546
to me, gx is slippier. In X it feels more on-rails to me. I would advise:
turn very gently, start turning before the turn
Use double-tap R or Z "side-barge attack" for sharper turns
Use a craft with A grip until you are fluent.

Also, if you get used to drifting (best done with Blood Falcon and Night Thunder), you actually want a lower grip. I actually avoid A/B grip cars altogether now when I play F ZeroX.

>> No.6435565

>>6435553
GX has stuff like quick turns which completely negate the poor handling downside of the best machines, along with a bunch of tricks for speed. Also it feels easier to do slight turns on, since you can set your own deadzone, whereas i only have the WiiVC version of X, where the deadzone is kind of weird.
As for lower grip, i know about sliding, but you can't slide everywhere, like the cylinder/pipe levels in particular. I can't properly drive those ever. Speaking of side attacks, what's the proper way to kill with that? Doubletap and then trying to fly into the enemy?

>> No.6435586

Is it just me or the DD cups are kinda of bad?

>> No.6436479

>>6435565
you dont need to totally ram enemies. Obviously Black Bull and other tanks are harder to kill. Its easier to kill when travelling from behind your target at high speed, then just gently side-attack as you slip by them. The nose is the weakest point in gx, but in X it doesnt seem to matter as much. Also, getting them at no-edges parts , obviously. Just a suggestion of a shunt should kill most machines.

You cant slide on pipe tracks, no, but desu you should always be winning pipe tracks on FZX because theyre just straight up Maxspeed.
The trick to winning in FZX on Master is to boost at the beginning of the second lap, and save your boosts for the end of the 3rd lap. that should win you most tracks and EVERY tube/pipe (the only thing that can fuck you up on tubes is bumping into another ship from behind, which sucks. If you lose all your speed like that, on Master, you are basically resigning yourself to 3rd place at best, you aint coming 1st if that happens.)

For side-attack turns in FZX, you can also do a variant of the Quick-turn. It works best on Port Town 2, let go of Accelerator, hit Z + R then reposition your craft, do the side-attack for the turn (left if left, right if right, obv) then hit A again and continue on. Its difficult to explain really, and you only need it on that one bit really.

>>6435586
They are amazing for the advanced techniques

>> No.6436512

Just on the subject of F Zero X, I have completed every Time Attack staff ghost, and its probably the hardest thing I have ever done in video games.
Especially:
Mute City 1
Sand Ocean 1
Sector a

White Land 1 took time to get used to the weird speed side-attack glitch, but once I did I trounced it.
Big hand was also difficult, not for falling off but for judging how to drift the fingers. You have to basically drift-boost every turn and each one is slightly different, i.e. slightly deeper and you have to begin your drifts at different points within the turns.

If anyone is interested, this Polish guys Youtube channel (linked above in >>6434507
) is amazing for FZX strategies.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AyrbNIapsP4

Bear in mind the game runs differently (faster) on NTSC so if youre playing on PAL its a bit slower and therefore harder. You notice it especially on straight up Maxspeed Time Attacks, eg. Mute City 1 and Silence 1. Which are actually wildly difficult, literally took me years to do them.

>Wii VC Version
IIRC that and the wii u version are notorious for having issues with the deadzones, F-Zero X is a game you should play with the N64 Controller because of the more precise analog, at least that is what most of the pros at this game recommend.

I played this game a lot. here are some of my observations

1)It was a shitty remake of a goat Snes game
2) The only thing that kept me coming back to this game was the level here you had to push everyone off the road in under two minutes. Thats was the most fun part of the game
3) It had a remake on the gamecube made by Sega. It got raving reviews. I played it once and twice and it didn't do anything for me.

It doesn't hold a candle to Wipeout 2097. That version of Wipeout is better than F-Zero on every level. Wipeout should've been a Nintendo staple and F-zero was just psx shovelware.

Now look here: I'm as much a fan of nintendo games as any man. You won't see me shitting on Wave Race. But I just didn't have good experiences with F-Zero other than the Snes version. And fuck you, even the soundtrack on the N64 one was shit. Riding around on tubes.

Wipeout 2097 is far better. I love the dead stop. It's like a mixture of Mario Kart and 1080 Snowboarding. In a futuristic setting.

F-Zero is just sliding around the bends in a shitty looking way and looking for boosts as much as you can with a shitty soundtrack. And some of the tracks are so wide, it just comes down to strategy of when to use boosts. I mean, it's a 'just pres A brah' for the duration of the track.
