Pic related. It's great to dump one or two hours on any of the series' games on a weekend.
Also, am I the only one that liked the arranged soundtrack for Ninja Gaiden Trilogy on SNES? I know I am; the brass makes it sound like an old 80's movie.

>> No.6424672

I dunno Id say theyre about equal, Ninja Gaiden has faster, more exciting gameplay but Shinobi has far better level design (with some big exceptions like III). NG series is also just the same game 3 times for better or worse, Shinobi experimented with the formula in the later titles. 3 is best NG, Shadow Dancer arcade is best Shinobi.

Is the original Shinobi worth $5 on the Xbox store? Ive heard its like Rolling Thunder, which I like.

>> No.6424821

>>6424783
Yes it's Rolling Thunder with melee and less stiff movement, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't enjoy it if you're a RT fan besides maybe the setting. Pick up Shadow Dancer too if you can, it's just like the first game but better.

I think Shinobi is the stronger series for me. Shinobi just has more games I love:
>Shinobi
>Revenge of Shinobi
>Shadow Dancer
>G.G. Shinobi
>G.G. Shinobi II
>Shinobi III
Maybe it isn't fair to include the original and Shadow Dancer since they're so different, but the others all keep to the Super Shinobi design beats pretty well and are excellent. I like the NES Ninja Gaiden trilogy, though, especially the original.

This, Shinobi had so many great games, all different from one another. I'd still give Shinobi the win if we're comparing only the NES/Genesis games, which may be what OP meant. Answer might change if we include the not retro NG games.

There's no kinda about it. It's a great Rolling Thunder clone that's arguably better than Rolling Thunder, but it's definitely a copy. Also

iirc the TG version is very faithful but overall a downgrade as expected. It does have a 'console mode' where you get a lifebar instead of 1-hit deaths, if you're getting trolled too hard. Probably fewer enemies onscreen. Arcade version helpfully recommends which weapon to use, I think they took that out.

Shinobi Genesis series.

While I love NES Ninja Gaiden games they're all a bit too similar in gameplay. Shinobi is a bit more varied.

Either way its a great game, and its now easy to find the arcade version on the Switch eshop now as well. It's one of those games that does an excellent job of letting you load up on power-ups that make you feel like a total bad-ass as it slowly ratchets up the difficulty.

It's very good, especially if you like that type of game but one thing I always hated about it was you can't continue on the last stage, which is especially bullshit considering how hard the final boss is and how you can completely screw yourself by making it to that stage with like one life left . Ninja Gaiden is one of the best platformers ever made. It's a little rough around the edges but the mechanics make it a sheer joy to play. It just feels really fucking good to control; everything comes out like frame 1 making everything super snappy, the movement speed and jump height just feel perfect, I dunno. I really like it

It's why I never cared for III too much, it doesn't have the same snappiness of the first two

>> No.6428615

I don't know that I'd call Hagane all that hard.

>> No.6428962

>>6428615
The controls and character movement can get confusing.
I find people complaining about NG's difficulty, but the game feels fluid enough and the controls are straightforward so it's up to you to push through on your ability.
And I love Hagane for a lot of reasons, but jumping feels floaty and weird, Select should be used by default for the screen attack instead of cycling through weapons and you need to be very precise if you want to execute flip atacks without getting. It's harder getting used to it but going through Hagane is a great experience.

>> No.6428983

>>6428962
That's true. To be honest, a lot of the movement and attacking options in Hagane don't add up to much. I like the game a lot, but it does sometimes feel like they looked at Shinobi and Strider and said "That. But with a bunch of shit piled on." It could've been refined a lot.
