Was playing the dreamcast version not that long ago. Yes, it's still great. Doesn't have manuals or any transition tricks, so you can't string insane combos like in later games. While that may take away some depth, it makes you pay attention to the level design and how the jumps & rails flow from one to another. It's also nice to just play around with simple tricks without feeling like you're missing something.
Overall it's the most stripped down th game, but the fundamentals are so solid that it's still fun.

Remake? Holy shit that's awesome. I see that it's for PlayStation though so I won't be getting it. Gimme PC or Switch and we might be talking.

This game has aged quite well. It's still simple compared to 2 (which improved everything possible and hand a crazy amount of content) but I love popping it in (N64) and just casually beating Single Player mode. I've played it so many times I can beat the first level 100% in one run and then get most of the goals in level 2. I'm not a big fan of the downhill jam level because you miss one item and need to restart the entire thing. If you play it just as a race to the bottom it's pretty fun (I wish they did a mode where you have to get the most points in the fastest time without falling).

Yeah, they're remaking 1&2 like it's a modern 2X, albeit lord only knows if they'll bother including 2X's exclusive content, and then adding in the revert and manuals of 3 with some moves from 3 and 4, but the gameplay snippets look to have the old weighty jumps instead of the later floaty ones. Crash N.Sane Trilogy folks working with former Neversoft devs, referencing the classic source code. i'm not sure what to think of the graphics or the bail animations sort of doing a virtual fizz out to keep them from lasting too long, but honestly it's already looking pretty good, Activision would have to try to really fuck this one up.

not that I put it past them given it's EGS exclusive on PC already

If it comes to Steam or Switch I will gladly pay to support this series. Already own 1+2 on N64 and PS1 and rented the shit out of the rest of the series with the last one being on the original XBOX that I cared about. Something about 1+2 is just fucking amazing. 1 is great and unique but 2 added on everything it had (Much like the DKC series) while still making you want to play both games because they each give you something unique.

if you want an actually new and fresh skateboarding game play Skater XL.
if you want same old arcadeyy THPS, play THUG Pro, its a free mod of the PC version of THUG 2. or just get ePSXe and PCSX2 and emulate the old games.

tl;dr, this is a remake of a remake, they already did this with THPS HD and it sucked ass. don't give Activision your money.

I like the dreamcast version, but the game was designed for ps1 originally and that's way it's meant to be played. I'd say you can't go wrong with thps1 on ps1, dreamcast or even n64. Each version is fun to play on each respective system.

Changing the subject a bit. Did anyone ever take advantage of the buggy and broken as fuck replay system that one has? I swear, I had many a fun memory wiping on purpose and jumping into water and watching the replay system not know what the fuck is going on and just going ape shit, such as sending you out of the level, crashing altogether, ruining the physics, spamming the "DON'T DO DRUGS" text repeatedly and without end.
