So, who won?
I think it's a matter of opinion and location, but let's see what you guys have to say about it.

it's like comparing apples to oranges. don't do it

>> No.641428

Probably the SNES since it stomped on the Genesis in sales.

The one with the better library is still the Genesis

>> No.641437

"won"

take it back to /v/, consolewar 'tard

>> No.641432

Clearly, the SNES won.

But since the Genesis was designed, built, and sold with the intent of competing with and destroying the NES, and the SNES was made as a "caught with our pants down" response to it's existence, that's excusable.

Genesis does what Nintendon't, motherfucker!

>> No.641440

We, the players, have won.

oh look, it's some guy shitting up all the /vr threads

you're worse than the people you think are from /v

Until Genesis gets Chrono Trigger, DKC2 or Mario Kart, SNES has the better library imo.

>> No.641447

>>641428
This is pretty much right. I don't think anyone can argue that the SNES has a superior library.

This. It depends on what "won" means.

Incorrect assumptions, monsieur. Take your ego elsewhere

>So, who won?
Us. We've got two great systems filled with awesome games to play and enjoy, still readily available trough clever shopping or a quick download.
They say times of conflict drive technical and creative innovation forward, for the 16-bit war I'm thankful that was the case.

Genesis has much more variety in terms of Genre, and the library of good games is overall bigger. Genesis also usually got the high end of the stick in games that were ported to both consoles.

But, all of the Good SNES exclusives are pretty much all god tier games.

5 star post. If there is anything wrong with today's industry, there isn't enough distinction between the competition. They just try to do the same thing rather than "doing what nintendon't."

This. They both had amazing libraries. Good RPGs, good platformers, good fighters. Shit son, we were lucky.

>> No.641473

>>641463
Come on, it's exactly the same today. Even better, since there are THREE high-profile competitors.

>> No.641475

Genesis lead in sales for its life time. SNES only pulled ahead because Sega moved onto the Saturn.

Honestly I think it's best to just call it a tie, both are amazing systems with great libraries, with certain systems being better for certain genres.

For me and my friends it was all about SNES, I was the only one with both systems. Just found SNES to be a more fun system with marketing that hit my age group perfectly. Even when comparing my rom collection on PSP, I have many more SNES than Sega.

One thing I will give sega, much better cases for the games.

I don't know. I grew up with a Mega Drive, never, EVER had a chance to touch an NES or SNES. I guess I'm biased to say that I've never otherwise seen an SNES game that looked nearly as cool as the ones I loved on the Mega Drive.
Namely Comix Zone, Shinobi III, Sonic 2, Streets of Rage 3, etc.

>> No.641654

>>641473

Yeah, but no distinguishing between them. All make the same games, the only variety being a nuance in rendering capabilities.

Console gaming is on the way out

No it didn't, except in Japan where the Mega Drive was a bit of a flop. The Genesis sold exactly the same number of units as the SNES in the USA (some say it sold slightly more), and it sold WAY more in Europe and South America.

This guy, THIS GUY.

I like you, guy. you got it right. When you look at the 16-bit era, everybody won.
