Ex-Death itself was always an entity created from the amalgamation of evil spirits over time that were sealed into a tree. At the very end of the game The Void consumes Exdeath, and Neo Exdeath is these evil spirits all properly manifesting themselves for the first time. Exdeath's warlock form is like a disguise, and his tree form is like a cover or a shell, Neo-Exdeath the evil sealed spirits that truly always lied beneath.

After the malicious warlock-king Enuo was defeated and the Void was sealed away, humans turned to an alternative solution to purge their land of corruption and terror. The Great Forest of Moore provided a solitary prison for these malevolent souls, and they were sealed within a tree. Many other monsters were drawn to the forest, making it the most dangerous place on the second world. The various souls residing within the tree made it self-aware and it assumed a humanoid form, a being as evil as the many souls that had spawned him, and Exdeath was born.

Now fully prepared, the Light Warriors fly the airship into the Interdimensional Rift that has opened over Tycoon. They fight through the hodgepodge of environments seemingly put together from the places the Void consumed until they reach the final floors, a world of crystalline darkness.

Exdeath reveals his true form: the Moore tree. The Great Forest of Moore had once been used to seal evil spirits, until the day the spirits sealed in a tree became a sentient, malicious being. He tries to destroy the Light Warriors with the Void, but the spirits of Galuf, Xezat, Dorgann, Kelger, and King Tycoon save them, allowing the party to confront Exdeath in battle. Halfway through the fight he is consumed by the Void and becomes Neo Exdeath, an entity—the manifestation of the evil spirits trapped within the Moore tree that was Exdeath—that seeks to turn all of creation to nothingness. At great length, they defeat it.

I keep on hearing that this is the hardest boss in the Romancing SaGa series, what makes it so hard? I've heard people say that if you miss something in the game, this boss is unbeatable.

it's not really that hard unless you got yourself the right amount of skills to cheese the final boss
but for anybody that played the remaster, there's actually an extra secret boss where it can assure you don't spam Haste to win.

the strategy is to learn all the evasive skills before fighting the queen

do you know anything about the other fangames on that site? Just recently (roughly 2 months ago) a new game called "Financial Fantasy II" has been uploaded to that site and all I could find was some 2ch.sc thread mentioning it.

The end game boss round up on your way through the void always have me the impression that those were the ancient heroes from past times that stood up against Enuo and had lost their light over time.
It doesn't seem so striking til you reach that one castle with the blue mage, faggot prince on a throne and uh that giant open mouth face that is super weak to holy and casts megaflare on a cool down

Is the remaster better than the original? I've heard people say NG+ makes the game easy. Are there any bosses that require you to use haste? I'd like to try it out without cheesing my way through.

Yeah that was weird.

As a lorefag you can read that a lot of different ways:

a. Exdeath really didn't want anyone in there picking up Excalibur so he left his ghosts and a bunch of zombie dragons to guard it

b. There's only one Zombie Dragon & Exdeaths Soul. They're both unkillable but can be shut down for a time. Maybe the Zomie Dragon was some sort of divine protector that was corrupted instead.

C. Exdeath is projecting his killing intent over to keep you away from the sacred weapons. Zemus did it afterall with his malice and breath. Undead zombie dragons are attracted to giant temples and holy weapons
