Would love to see Arino challenge the tenchu games, but they are quite violent and bloody. The 3D era ramps up the violence and gore, and the show aims for PG friendly. That means bloody games can only be DVD/BR only.

and it also means they'll never challenge a game that features licensed music since that would create a licensing nightmare.

DKC2 three parter was one of the best eps in the series because it was such a challenge for Arino. Then he forgot to save! there's parts where I'm yelling at Arino for fucking up so much and getting stuck on stages for hours. In contrast the Maroi RPG and Earthbound eps are just 3 parters because the games are long not because they're hard. no drama just zzz j-rpg gameplay.

Watching Dragon Slayer IV (Legacy of the Wizard) episode, and many complained that Nakayama gave him too many hints. He gives him a map and a strategy guide and outright tells him what to do. But even with these Arino couldn't beat the game in 12 hours in one day. There would be no way Arino would ever beat that game even with weeks of marathon playing.

btw I hate how they try to localize this shit. The narrator says "Dragon Slayer" constantly and the subs say "Legacy of the Wizard". And they do the same for the Famicom Wolf comic, where the narrator says "Koopa" and the subs say Bowser!

>> No.6399469

>>6398873
AD and other staff scouting is actually a big part of the workload. Even after they've secured the licensing rights and have a long list of games ready that would be good for the show, they have to play the games thoroughly while they're deciding what to challenge next. That's when they take notes on all the possible trouble spots and figure out where they might have to jump in to help Arino.

All of that heavy work comes well after they've added a game to their list and probably not all that long before they shoot the challenges. They can't do all that for every game on the list, just the ones they're preparing to put on the show. They also have to be present to take more notes about everything that happens during the shoots, then the editing crunch for each episode is really grueling.

>> No.6399486

>>6399469

>then the editing crunch for each episode is really grueling.

Yes I imagine that's hours and hours and where the real "show" is created. There's two cameras on Arino, and then game footage. Each has like 12 hours of footage and then you have to edit that into like a 40 minute "challenge". Then have a script for the narrator and create a "story" for the show.

They have a description about the segment and her on the episode list.

>Season 24 Mini Corner 1: "The Hall of Fortune-Telling Games" - Using software to divine the details, Arino's fate is foretold by Yuki "Little River" Ogawa. Previously seen as a Messe Messe Club backup singer, Ogawa does PR and other work for Gascoin Company.

Her "Little River" fortune-teller name is a pun on her family name. Ogawa literally means stream.

Yeah, you read that right. Granted, "激" ("geki") could be translated as any number of synonymns for "awesome", but I figured "radical" was most appropriate.
