Any of you played both Snatcher and SD Snatcher? I played the original on MegaCD about 20 years ago, completed Policenauts the other day and it was fine but made me want to play Snatcher more than anything.

Now I have a friend with Mega CD and Snatcher who's happy to lend me it, I have a CRT and would like to use it, trouble is he's in another country and lockdown isn't getting lifted any time soon.

Is SD Snatcher a sufficiently different experience that I'll still want to play Snatcher again afterwards?

I'd say it's different enough. You get to explore the world from a top down perspective rather than through a pseudo point and click adventure style interface without the point and click...(I didn't play either game or watch a video of them in a very long time) Story is slightly different as well, especially the outcome.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. I guess I'm mostly worried if it's a point-for-point retelling of the same story, but if there are differences (especially in the ending) then that's good enough for me.

Now, for the real question I guess... is SD Snatcher any good? I'm not big on random-battle JRPGs.

Different anon here. I had fun with it, it doesn't take itself too seriously and the combat system was surprisingly fun.

Battles are not even random, look at pic related, those metal spiders are the enemies and you can always just run away from them.

I don't remember having to grind much either but that was like 8 years ago so I may be full of shit.

I'll be honest, I think the writing for the MGS games is terrible. I didn't think it was that great for Policenauts, and probably the only reason I can overlook it in Snatcher is because the setting is so cool.

I wasn't necessarily saying it was good. I liked it when I was a teenager, but I liked a lot of dumb shit when I was a teenager and that was a long time ago. The story itself is without doubt the single biggest inspiration for Blade Runner, though, and I'm pretty sure Ridley Scott said as much.

I found it funny that the PC-CD version of Snatcher didn't have the rooftop scene w/ Gillian and Jamie when it was in the SegaCD version since I played that one first. Seeing these pages and knowing the SegaCD port came after it would seem someone, possibly Kojima himself, liked this scene enough to reproduce it in the port properly.

Playstation and Saturn ports came after, I wonder if they retained it?

Is it even possible for someone to get into pixel art of this level if you have no art experience and can't draw at the age of 30? I assume you need to learn to draw normally before you can do good pixel art right?

>> No.6403323

>>6403279
Creating good pixel art typically starts off with sketching normally, then filling with pixels of the desired size.

But learning to draw is like any other dextrous skill: if you put in an hour or two a day you'll get pretty good before you know it. People like to say that artists are naturally talented, or gifted, or whatever other bullshit. The truth is that mostly they just put in the hours.
