aside from new maps and characters and such are the sequels to street fighter alpha different in any ways?

>> No.638565

yes
3 had the -isms, break falls and different speed
forgot the rest

>> No.638587

yes
alpha 1 - first to introduce 3 level super combos. feels very basic, more like ssf2t, dan
alpha 2- custom combos, play as retro versions of certain characters, evil ryu, sakura
alpha 2 gold - cammy, easier cc
alpha 3 - the entire sf roster before sf3, three isms, world tour mode, cody

>> No.638601

I don't into fighting. What are isms. Not OP.

different types of super move meter
X - ssf2t style, V - custom combo, Z/A - 3 level alpha style

>> No.638631

>>638601
Different modes. X-ISM only has 1 super, no air blocking, no Alpha Counters, but higher damage. A-ISM is traditional Alpha style (but no custom combos). V-ISM has no supers but can use custom combos.

i feel alpha 3 is the best sf game.

>> No.638636

Also all of the Alpha sequels drop the universal chain combo system Alpha 1 had.

>> No.638693

People have also forgotten to mention that in practically all sequels to fighting games ever, an entire rebalancing to the cast is done, altering things like lenth of hitbox, taking parts of a hitbox out, adding or subtracting frames from attacks (which can enable new combos or disable older ones), and sometimes even add or remove special properties to an attack (like whether or not a knockdown from a particular move can be tech'd for a quick recovery).

Ultimately, if you have to ask if there are differences between iterations of fighters, you are still relatively green to fightans.

I'm aware of rebalancing between say street fighter 1, 2, alpha, 3, and 4. I was wondering if the alpha different updates of alpha had it.

>> No.638803

>>638747
What? No. When I said 'iteration', I didn't mean 'series'

Take SFII for example, which has 5 iterations (SFII, SFIICE, SFIIT, SSFII, SSFIIT) Between each iteration are rebalances across the board. Hell, the bosses didn't even have a full spritesheet of attacks until Super.

The same is true of Alpha (Alpha, 2, 2Gold, 3, 3Upper), III (NewGen, 2I [where Sean was a GOD], 3S [where they gimped Sean to all hell]), etc.

Every version within a series has something going on; not just the different series themselves.

>> No.638809

If I remember correctly

Alpha 1 had chain combos (low-mid-high chains), 3-tiered Super Bar
Alpha 2 added custom combos, removed the chain combos
Alpha 3 added the -ISMs, a bunch of characters, Dramatic Mode / Final Bison

peak of the series if you ask me

>> No.638820

>>638803
nope it has 7 iteration, you forgot hyper street fighter 2 and HD remix

>> No.638823

>>638747
yes the alpha games had that.

more interestingly, in alpha 3, each ism had different techniques/special properties for each fighter.
for example, cody in v-ism can auto dodge an an attack and therefore won't take any guard damage. and adon in x-ism can perform jaguar kick just by pressing any kick button in the air.

Fair enough; I was steering away from HDR for obvious reasons, but also Hyper because it is an exception to the aforementioned theme: It has no rebalancing, and is literally just taking the five iterations and smooshing them together ala MUGEN.

Only if they hit mid though; was still pretty awesome and made most efforts to try and keepaway with projectiles useless. Cody4lyfe
